Hey, guys what do you guys recommend is a good pre-amp for the TLM 103?

I read some reviews and got the Eureka(pre-sonus) yesterday, what do you guys think of that set-up? We are maily using it for Vocals. We already got our Drums sounding great.

TLM 103 > EUREKA > ROLAND Si-24 (Logic Pro).

Thanx
Jose M

Oddly enough, the only preamp that I liked with the tlm 103 was an Avalon 737.

i have been usings Neumann TLM103 Studio Microphone with sebatron vmp2000e valve preamplifiers with very good results.i am liking the sweet top frame.

I'm surprised no one has said something like:

"What's a good brand of jelly to go with my peanut butter" or something like that.

The answer is obviously Goober. It has both!!!

Try a Rane MS1 . It is well built and has a very wide bandwvidth. I highly recommend them . I am getting some very pleasing results with female voice.

With a TLM 103? It is a hard mic to match up with preamps in my (admittedly limited) experience.

I would say, anthing, it's a great mic.
How about the John Hardy M-1? Great little box, but not exactly cheap (not cheap at all really)

The TLM 103 sounds excellent through the Eureka. Even better is the Joe Meek 6Q, which has a fat sound like the Vintec 1272 clone. Like the Eureka it uses a transformer on the front end, which can be switched in or out. The EQs on it are especially musical and smooth. The comp, however, is somewhat aggressive when compared to the Eureka. Both boxes work amazingly well with the TLM 103.

I owned a TLM 103 once and found it way too bright for my tastes. If you agree at all you might look into a dark sounding mic pre to take some of the sizzle off the mic. I dunno, maybe some tube model..........

It has the same freq bump at 5k that the U87 does, which is a dark sounding mic. I found the exact opposite with the TLM103, that it usually needs a 3db boost at 6K to make vocals sparkle, otherwise it tends to be somewhat dark.

The TLM is a bright mic with a lot of output. So it doesn't need a preamp with a lot of gain.

What will determine which preamp is best is what source you are recording.

Thanx for all the feedback guys, I'm going to try this one and if it doesn't please me i'll consider your suggestions.

thanks again
Jose
