Hi,

this is a song I wrote, performed and mixed using an old audio-technica PRO22 (previously used as a drum mic) a tascam MF-P01 4-track tape recorder as a pre-amp and Audacity on my laptop... oh, and cakewalk home studio 7 to notate and play the midi drums...

Apart from getting a better mic and pre-amp (as I'm in the process of doing)
does anyone have any tips for my early attemps at trecording?

stream / down here

vocals are way to loud way undercompressed and way to dry for ccm the arangments of the instruments are conflicting all over the place no definiton no balance and over all muddy in the low end the pads are boring and unrealistic sounding as well

How do I fix the muddy low end? what are pads?

Thanks

i guess in terms of the gear you have its not a bad recording! ;)
id recomend cutting the midrange a bit on the drums they sounded like they had a phone effect on them or something.
And IMO the vocal was too loud in this mix.
Now as for the song......
I didnt like it.

I find it really hard to get a good vocal level... I'm not overly impressed with my vocals on this anyway...
I htnk I may have played round with getting a phone sound on the drums.. i guess it doesn't work.

Do you mind if I ask why you didn't like the song? btw... It's purpose isn't as a radio song, but a church congregational song...

well...
I think the sound of your voice is pretty bland

its all.

Blahhhh
blahhhhh
BLAHHHHHHH

bla
blaa
Blaah
BLAHHHHHHHHH

dont take that hard man.
It just sounded lifeless to me.
Like it needed some soul.
But im sure someone will review and love it.
Its just one opinion.
Kepp crackin at it! Youll get it. ;)

Thanks... I think that's peobably it..

I'm actually in my 4th year of a uni degree training in opera.. so in this I'm kind of sing at at about 3%.. I find it really hard to get a really good straight tone..

Next time I'll try it not thinking about technique!
