Tips on some good night music?

I really love to listen to "night music", preferably in the middle of the night from time to time.
I love that I feel like I'm walking the empty streets at night or driving the car, or even staring out of the window towards the city, or looking at the stars, at 2am, and digging some nice mellow beat that keeps me awake but is still very chill.
When this happens I tend to stick to chillout electronic music, but sure instrumental music is welcome as well if I get the same feeling from it.

Some examples of what I like to listen to is:

Note that it's very dull music, but still quite active.

I want to find more music that gives me this feeling.
What recommendations do you have?

It's been popping up over there on the right for about a month now, relentlessly. I'm never going to buy, or indeed listen to, an album called "Reflections in the Bowels of a Bird" but you might like it. The advertising speaks very highly of it.... I'm sure it's all sincere.:wtf:

Report back.:thumbs up:

OK, to give you a serious answer to your question, if that's the type of music you're looking for, there's an internet radio station (or at least there used to be) called radioio. Within that there are subcategories, one of which is Ambient. There's also Chill. I used to listen to Ambient at work, and it was a lot like the examples you posted, perhaps a little more diverse.

Personally, your samples didn't give me the feeling you described. For that, I lean more towards old-school jazz and Steely Dan. An example of that would be Deacon Blues. Bob James' Angela's Theme (the theme from Taxi) would be a perfect one for what you're describing. Really, there's tons of mellow jazz from that time period (late 70s - early 80s) that fits the bill. If you're more adventurous, try checking out a bunch of artists from that era on the ECM label, like Eberhard Weber and Kenny Wheeler.

Hope this helps.

I'll skip the Bitch's Brew stuff. Hated that album.
Yeah, I'm not a jazz fan generally, and to be honest, I don't really "get" what makes Miles Davis so great. I don't know enough about jazz and even less about trumpets. So, I love this relaxing stuff, but I hear it and think "Can't any semi-decent horn player play and sound like this?". I'm sure the answer is "NO" for a reason, but I just don't hear it. But I love the tone, melody, and coolness of this kind of jazz.

It's perfect background music for me, whether I'm taking a nap, cleaning up around the house, or even watching something else at the same time. The good thing about it is that, since there's no vocals, it doesn't get in the way. I can watch stand-up comedy with this music playing in the background and it doesn't distract. It's just....there.....:)

Even if that was the case, most of the stuff of his that I like is more about the whole band and the inter-instrument dialog than any one showboat musician.

This'll have you sawing logs in no time:

(seriously though, I went through a phase where I was using death metal to fall asleep to, for some reason. I had some interesting dreams. . .)

TBH, if I put jazz on to fall asleep to, I can't fall asleep, because I tend to want to listen attentively.

See, I've always found the opposite... that really complex music has great soporific values - and I'm talking intentionally - not in the sense that it sends me to sleep because it's boring. Seems to free the mind from the things that are assailing it. Mine, anyway...
