when i record the vocals to the instrumental and play it back the timing is off the vocals or off beat from the instrumental. does anyone know what i can do to fix it?

Do you mean that the tracks don't sync up at all (are in slightly different tempos) or that they're just not aligned?

In a multitrack program you should be able to zoom in to see the waveforms and that should help you line them up. If you know a certain note is supposed to coincide with the first kick drum hit, ferinstance, line up that note with the kick drum hit by dragging the track over. Play it back to check, and tweak the alignment until all is well. :)

If the tracks are in differing tempos, you'll probably need to retrack or do some serious editing. I've had something like this happen before. The app I was using for playback wasn't playing back in perfect time, though I couldn't hear that it was off. But when I played the project back, it sounded fine at first, in sync and all that, but by the end of the song the new track was off in outer space somewhere. Not cool! :(

.....

When you try to align the WAV.'s, don't forget to disable "SNAP TO".

2 things come to mind other than what they have pointed out....

1.) If its a downloaded version (u know what I mean) - sometimes its been crac*** so much that it may have problems with it....

2.) check your playback buffer and recording buffer in your preferences menu
