Hey all,

It's time to update the setup. I've got around $1250 to spend and have a general idea of what I want. First, I'm currently using an AMD 2500+ with 512MB Ram, a 40 Gig OS drive, and two 160 GB audio drives. CD and DVD burners. I have the E-Mu 1820m audio card and an SM-57. I was thinking about getting another 512 MB of ram, a pair of Oktava Mk-012s, an M-audio DMP3, M-audio BX5's, and a good Bass DI (or maybe a V-amp or something similar). This would very very conservatively leave me with about 300 left to spend. With this should I upgrade the monitors, add some more mic's or maybe a better preamp? I'm looking to record my band with vocals guitar bass and drums. So far I've just been recording me playing guitar and singing.

Thanks for all your advice,

Jackson

SP C4s might be a better buy than the Oktavas now. Your PC is fine so just add ram if you want it and leave the rest. Don't spend money you don't need to, buy maybe something outboard like a compressor (the Behringers are ok) and an effects unit (TC Electronics M300 is well-liked) might be fun ...

I think the mic cabinet needs the upgrade. Second the DMP-3. I'd probably get a main vocal mic (Studio Projects T-3, Rode NTK), a pair of C-4's, and a really good dynamic (Sennheiser MD441, EV RE20 or Shure SM7B). The SM57 has uses, but it is way off from a mic cabinet.-Richie
