Behringer Mixer

As my nic indicates, I use a Behringer MX3282. Not because it was the best mixer to buy, but because it was the most afforable one in that size that i could get. $1300 CDN. Since I got it, which has been one year, I used it for a live out doors show and the faders got all full of dirt and now stick like crazy. To replace every one would cost me about $11 a piece, so 38 faders times $11 a piece, plus labour...Ummm...to much.

So not long after that, one of my Main Faders went out and I had to have it taken in for service. Thats where I found out what a fader cost. Haven't had any other problems since then.

Would I buy another Behringer mixer? I don't think so. It like Blue Bear said, after awhile you get tired of listening to crappy stuff, I wish I could afford a nice mixer that offered 8 Outs which I could patch into my Aardvark Pro Q10, (They went out of business by-the-way).

I'm buying a dbx 166XL and a dbx 286a this week. they're running me $350 each CDn. Would they be considered Cheap Junk not worth buying?

i think dbx is safe from the pitch forks and "burn'em at the stake" rhetoric that behringer gets...i use behringer also and now that I'm confident in what i can do, i want to buy better. but i will say that if i couldnt afford better then i would probably get another behringer.....hey did you know the MX2442 is now $379 USD? i almost forgot myself for a second and bought it with the money i had.

While I don't agree with your assessment of Behringer, I agree that an all Behringer studio would be problematic. But then an all-ANYTHING studio would be a problem.

Oh, I don't know. I have an MCI JH24 24 track 2" recorder and an MCI 32 track/8bus console. This is the exact same setup used for about 80% of all the rock albums recorded in history (70s-mid 90s). The Eagles albums (vurtually all of them) used this setup. Quite popular with the studios.

No real problems here. All MCI.

I personally would go with a pair of vintage DBX units, like the 160X or 160XT.

Behringer users

I'm not a big behri fan, but some sure are. The FOH guy for Metallica uses a ton of it, as do some pretty heavy monitor guys, who could have anything they want. A lot of heavy metal FOH guys use it. That may have it's own implications.

So I check out the Behringer users...

Hehe ... is it just me? or is it really ironic that the FOH soundguy for the band "Garbage" uses a rack full of Behringer gear?

Thought that was funny as hell :D

That out of the way, I ordered up myself one of those DDX3216's to try out. $599 with the ADAT card? Hard to pass up the opprotunity to try it out for that price. I can always send it back if it stinks. But if it does what I'd like it to do, it's a bargain.

It's hard NOT to have at least some reservations about Behringer gear if your new to this stuff and your here reading these boards. So little support for their products.

What everyone needs to remember is this site is supposed to support home recording - not necessarily pro level recording. Most people getting into this 'hobby' simply can't afford higher end items. I'm sure there are alternatives out there in the low priced market to Behringer gear. However it seems from reading tons of posts that not ALL Berry items stink, though quality control does always seem to be an issue. A friend of mine loves the Behringer gear he's purchased - has nothing bad to say.

However I'd never buy a Behringer item off of eBay, new or not simply because of the quality control issue. (aside from a couple ECM8000's and this DDX3216 purchase I've never bought a Behringer product - I've read too many questionable comments!). I like the 30-45 day satisfaction guarantee return option most all online vendors offer. If it's finding a use inside the 45 days and earning the money I spent on it, it most likely stays. If it sounds like crap or I find I have no use for it it gets sent back.

Or for about five bucks, you can get a can of compressed air and a can of contact cleaner. Replacing pots because they get dirty is like replacing a car because it runs out of gas. :D
