Thanks all, I'll have a listen without the distorted guitar on the verse but I kind of feel that's it's adds more of a string section, smooth type thing to the overall tune.

I'll check that out and just dropping the level on the distorted parts and see what happens.

See ya

The chnages work REALLY well.
I tip my trilby to you & True.

Ray,
I think you are right.

Sometimes it's hard to stay detached from the stuff you do, but I just had another listen, and I think it is pretty good overall.

Good balance for the most part.

True's vocals sound good with that dry center track.

This mix is sounding great. :)

When the vox are good, there's no point hiding them behind FX chains. :) That's why I'm glad you made 'em more upfront.

:)

Listening to the latest mix now....Guitar tone is great....drums seem to be pretty good also. I wouldn't mind hearing a bit more bass in there...just to fill that out. Nice job on the vox...both True on the performance, and Doug, in his mix. This one sounds pretty good. Captured the emotion well, and it seems to sit well within the music.

Nice one....

I like it man!

It's just not radio friendly!

Ah farg the radio, that's mostly crap! :D

Wow this is the first time I've heard true in mp3..girl you really got some pipes! This is totally smokey bar pool hall blues. I'd lose some of the reverb on the vocal to make it a little more intimate. I'd like to hear those guitars a bit more too and a bit less hats. Otherwise sounds really good. Nice groove. It's over too soon

Very impressive track. :)

The git playing is just right and very nice and emotional.

The drums and the bass are very nice together and work well together. And sound very nice too.

Vox: powerful. Powerful vocal performance. Very nice.

I side with the camp of reducing the verb on the vox slightly. I wouldn't even be upset if you removed some verb and raise the vox slightly. :)

I think Dogman's version was around here and I didn't get to listen to it. Maybe it might need to be brought back. :)
Thanks Bubba for the kind words, suggestions, and the listen. :)

Nice,
I would try to loose distorted guitar on verse parts and bring the other one a little bit closer.
I woulld try to use this one on both channels during verses.
Distorted rhythm guitar is filling nicely second solo.
The snare is better now but there is still something little what isn't right.
Overall: Good!
Thanks for the listen Sikter! :) I personally would love to hear real drums with this cover. Doug's playing is precise and smooth and deserves to be backed with some great drums !!

Thanks for the second listen Bubba and the nice words !! :) I always find myself wanting to hide behind things...

Good changes Doug, noticeable right away. The vocals are much better but they still don't seem to be sitting in the same "room" as the guitar. Perhaps the guitar could use more reverb - not sure. I do like the performance / arrangement on this and the verb diff is just a small nit.....
Ido...thank you for the listen and kind words. I myself am iffy about the reverb Doug has on it now. I have to admit I like it, even though it may be a bit more than most like. It is like a security blanket, the same as an effects pedal can be with a guitar, when one gets used to using them. :D

Dog...Thanks for listening and all the good comments and I think some extra bass could sound good too !!

Hey Bulls Hit!! Thank you so much !!

I have been known to frequent the smoky bar/pool hall quite a bit, and after a few games of sloppy pool, I get the blues...I think it may have influenced me. ;) :D

Good recording and good performance. :)
Thanks Larry !! :)

I just want to say thank you to Doug, for doing the collab with me. I think his playing is great and well honed, not to mention the emotion put into it. I was moved by it. I don't like the drum machine...I will say that again, because it DOES detract from Doug's playing...but I can relate to the issue of extra time put into a project that one may not have or want to spend. If this were an original song though, I would be sending him to the SHED> :D  :D

I wouldn't be able to record if it wasn't for drum programs.

There's no other way for me to get drum sounds.

I don't have a studio that can record drums and I wouldn't even know how.
I don't own a mixing boards or mic's, etc.
Everything I record is direct in the computer.

If I had to hire a studio and record drums and pay for it, I would just give up this hobby and spend time on my other 5 or 6 hobbies that I like to do.

Plus I like doing everything my self.
If I could sing, I would do that too! :D

If you can mix in my vocal track, can't you mix in someones drum tracks? If you had one of the drummers here put a track to the song and send it to you...then you could mix it in. It would sound soooooo good. And that would be the same as doing it yourself kinda, when you are mixing them in with the backing and vox...right? ;) :D

I bet you can sing !!! Anyway, your axe does all the good singing anyhow.

Doug,

No offence intended here at all.

Your guitar tracks are superb, but I think you should allow room for True’s vocal to cut through a bit more without overdoing the reverb or applying effects to her vocal.

This is just a simple mix that I did of your combined efforts.

Thrill Is Gone

Great performances by you and True! :)

Good grief!

Was it something I said or was it the alternative mix I posted?

This is a GREAT collaboration and you guys need to keep it going until it's completed!

Hey EL34 and True,

I aren't going to comment on the actual mix because I am listening on pc speakers at work and I can't rely on them enough to make a judgement call.

However, the guitar playing, phrasing and execution is great!..I love playing and listening to the blues and you have some nice playing happening here! Excellent. I like the tone you have captured here, a very well delivered performance! :)

True, as usual your voice is sultry and fills this tune out like it should. The pitch and emotion that you convey here is great. I really like when you let rip with your pipes and display the power you have in your vocal delivery. You have such a commandeering voice and it fits this type of tune perfectly, absolutely great stuff True. :)
I only can constructively point in criticism at one little niche that I hear and that is during the more mellow vocal lines there seems to be too much loss of vocal delivery in the volume of your voice, it just seems to slide under the radar a touch.
This can no doubt be addressed in the mixing process, however not being a vocalist of any sought myself, I can only call on what my ears are hearing!

Overall, this is a great collaboration and EL34 and True, you guys are happening on this piece!

Nice work so far! :) :)

Thanx for sharing guys!

This is where I disagree.

I like the differences in attack and volume within True's vocal.

I think that the slight loss of volume during the mellow vocal portions lends to the overall performance.

It enhances the overall dynamic vocal scheme and makes the listener pay closer attention.

The emotion that True sang with is nothing short of exceptional!

If the vocal volume were to remain constant....it would negate the emotion IMHO.

FWIW, I commend True for NOT approaching the vocal in a stereotypical BB King vocal performance......and for singing it in her own way
