I have an MPA Gold, I also have the DMP3, and some other assorted budget line single channels. I use the MPA for vocals instead of the DMP3 because it seems to give a more full bodied sound. On the other hand, at the very top end you'll notice a bit of distortion which depending on what style you are trying to record can be irritating. On the other hand, I still use it. I hear replacing the tubes with higher quality will get rid of the wee bit of distortion.
I also owned a 12 channel Mackie DFX mixer, and borrowed a UA 610 for a year. The 610 was awesome, but it wasn't suitable for every track. It really did color the sound quite a bit. But it's a beautiful color.
