Excellent!

For just having some spare time and laying this down, man, this is just excellent! The vocals are great and the playing is excellent!

My only feedback (and this is just nit-picking and subjective since I really love this cover) is the verb on the drums sound a little bit much ... but, like I said, that is really no big deal :)

Great job!

Last--if anybody has some ideas for the choice Ray Charles tune, let me know. I'm into doing one of his, but I want to find the right one!

You Don't Know Me
It's Crying Time Again
Born To Lose

...would fit your sort of country Ray sound...

Smack Dab In The Middle
Unchain My Heart
Let's Go Get Stoned
Busted

...would fit your sort of Eric Clapton blues sound...Unchain My Heart would probably work best.

Ray does a great version of Yesterday, too...vice versa: Paul McCartney does a fantastic version of Don't let The Sun Catch You Crying on a live album, it's a sound check. Really great.

I Love Ray Charles!!! Looking forward to whichever you do. (I hope you use those Rogers drums :D ).

YOU DON'T KNOW ME!!!!!

YOU DON'T KNOW ME!!!! (kick butt vocal). But, to appease Lt. Bob, I recommend that you replace all the cheesy/dated background singers with horns.!!!

On 7th Thought

You could do the totally appropriate thing and do SEVEN SPANISH ANGELS and keep with the "Willie & Ray" theme of this thread.

I'd pay money for that.

Some great suggestions there guys! Today, I've been listening to "You Don't Know Me" and its such a great song, I think I may have to cover that one. However, Let's Go Get Stoned and Busted are also great ideas. Hmmm...

I love Unchain My Heart, but the Cocker version is so deep in my skull I couldn't get past it.

If there was any money in it, I'd do a whole Tribute to Brother Ray project. But, how ya gonna top the "genius" you know?

Chrisharris--Oh yeah--no milktoast choirs for sure. I always wanted to hear Ray Charles with just drums, bass, guitar, his piano and a couple horns--get rid of all the 60's sweetening. More raw and to the bone, like his vocal delivery.

Sluice---I'll trade ya anyday!

bydrj--the reverb suggestion is duly noted! I will adjust that.

participant--I missed you somehow. My apology. This time, I used the marshall V93 for the voice. It seemed to be working on that night. Sometimes, it doesn't like me, sometimes it does. Go figure!

Yes I do like your avatar! Oh......................scuse me'....um, I mean the song.....is um.......

edit: Hey.........I met gidge tonight...........he came out to see the daughter band......

Oh man, do a cover of "She's a Lady"- Tom Jones. My girlfriend would love you for it! (I admittedly would get a kick out of it too)

:D

You can punch me for that, but I bet you'd have fun with it nonetheless!

.....another vote for "busted". That would be real cool.

btw: I always thought that that one guy that got second place in american idol should have done "She's a lady". He is Tom Jones.:D

Great stuff Crawdad

JEEZ LOUEEEZ! That is just first fucking rate. The guitar is just liquid. The hammond in the back is oh so cool. This is what I like hear around 2:00AM with the headphones on and a fattie. This goes with the other one of yours on my "Road CD".

Been gone for a while, and I come back to this. Just superb, man. As others were suggesting RC tunes, the first one that occurred to me was Let's Go Get Stoned, too. But anything would be cool. I sure dig Ray's version of I Can See Clearly Now.
Hit the Road Jack is cool...hell, they're all cool.
You've definitely got your own voice, I think it just reminds everybody of Ray (read that as Soul).
Just a stoned groove to hear your stuff.

Mark

Great choice in tunes to cover! You did a hell of a job.

Great sound and the guitar echo is killer! The reverb gives it that 80's Ray Charles/Willie sound!

Very well done!

You don't expect us to believe that Gidge is a real PERSON, do you?

Very cool.

hey crawdad, if your taking requests, I have one.. It's not Ray Charles or anything like that..

I would love to hear you do 'turn the page' by Bob Seger with Lt. Bob doing the important sax part.. With your voice and EL-TEE's sax, I bet it would sound awesome!

o.k. back to the regularly scheduled thread..

I think he can do it:D I think Crawdad could do whatever he wanted to. Why not take a few minutes of your time and do "Turn the page" like Sam say's:D Sam say's, PLAY THAT TUNE. Shit, I bet Crawdad's already has it recorded. Anyone want to take bet's?

Really great tune,Crawdad!

I love the stacatto guitar, really makes the groove swing, the fills are sweet too.
Vocals are just wonderful,as always!
You could make a $20 Radio Shack mic sound like gold man!
Wait,I think you already did that!:D

Definatly a great New Orlens blues version.

I vote for Busted, just made for your styling.

Really great stuff, thanks for sharing it.

Pete

This has turned into some good fun! All these requests--gee, I asked for them, didn't I?! Almost feel like I'm playing a club or something, getting tunes scrawled on napkins!

Well, doing covers is fun. See, unlike some of the younger artists here who rightfully aspire to higher glories, I've moved into a time where sharing what I create is reward enough. You don't start a creative career at 51--by the time it gets through all the channels, you're in the old folks home! Doing covers allows me to explore the different areas of my Sybil-like musical split personalities! But I digress...

Anyway, B. Sabbath, I've sent Lt. Bob a message about Turn The Page and playing on a Ray tune or two. I love Busted and You Don't Know Me. I may have to do all three and maybe he'll be able to assist and add his Louisiana mojo. God, he makes me sound so much better than I am!

Sluice--LOL! Tom Jones I ain't!

Guernica--How about Its Not Unusual?! Thanks, bud!

mkg--Your comments have nurtured my "soul" so to speak. Something like that can keep me going a long time...

Track rat--I'm honored to travel with you in song!

Scottboyher--Thank you. I appreciate you listening and stopping in to make me feel good. You succeeded!

Flash--haven't even started, but I may. Hey, thanks for the great E-mail. You too have fed my soul and God knows I need al I can get these days...

Museman...my pleasure to share. I'm glad you liked it, really. For me, its such a kick to share music with all the talented people here. Its a rare thing. I often find myself thinking about people on this board who have the talent to make it in the real world, and I just hope that they all get that chance. I'm a little too long in the tooth for such journeys, but it still means a great deal to me to be able to share what I do with others. Wouldn't we all be excited to somebody who started out here "graduate" to a high profile music career? Thats my wish for all who are trying. For me, the pleasure of music is enough at this point.

I only have one complaint. I mean, Macle's upset about his stars:D. Macle, look at poor, poor pitiful Crawdad, sweating over a hot studio all day. God, he's just in anguish. Why? All these great comments and NOT ONE STAR! :D

Question? Does anybody ever really read these rants? :D

Ladies & gentlemen, you've just experienced what a really good voice can do to a track :) crawdad, you really sound like a pro, and although it's not my kind of music, I did listen to that 3 or 4 times. The only thing I dislike a littlebit is the verb on the drums mentioned by quit a few people by now.

And for the requests: maybe you should do something by Barry White? :D

Me, and my big mouth... (damn, that muthafrigging one star bandit  ).

Crawdad, let me be the first to present you with 5 shiny gold stars!

But...if you put a drum machine on a Ray Charles tune, I'll never forgive you. :p :D
