This may be dumb..

and i could be really tired, but the M-audio Octane is solid state right? Also, on their site it says 2 channels are mic/instruments pres, what the hell does that mean? Aren't all 8 mic/instrument pres?

It seems like you have 8 mic preamps, two of those having trs inserts.
 
ok, so this still may be stupid, but what is the point of the two trs inserts?

Basically, i can plu8 8 mics into this unit and get 8 pre-amps with 8 independant out for a total of eight individual tracks into my 2 delta 44's right?

I don't own this unit so I am not sure, but a quick lookup indicates that there are 8 mic pres (balanced) , and 2 independent instrument inputs. I would assume these bypass the preamp, but again, I am not sure.

Thank, i figured so, but sometimes I'm not sure if I read something or understood it correctly.
 
Those TRS inserts are good for plugging in direct (I.E.guitar and bass).

When all youve got are XLR ins, those little TRS ins are handy.
