Ok, I recently figured out how to use Sound Fonts, thanks to this forum. I never knew what it was so I always just ignored the fact that the software came with them. My question is, why would someone opt to spend a lot of money on a sound module when there are Sound Fonts? Is there some sort of benefit of having an external module? Am I missing something? It seems more logical to save the money and just use the sound fonts... Any thoughts?

Soundfonts Rocks!!!
However, having programable synths can give you many benefit. Specialy for MIDI minded musician (like myself...) There's many external synth offering you high quality sound & features.
Similiar Q : "why would you buy those analog multitrack if you have decent spec PC & SONAR ?" Well...

Another reason would be that the majority of the soundfonts you find for free on the net are created by home users like us, and frankly, most of them are just plain not good. If you're serious about using soundfonts, there are many commercially available, but you're gonna pay for them. Maybe not as much as a sound module, but sometimes the prices get up there pretty high. If you take your time and search carefully, you can find many for free that sound excellent. Trust me, though, these are needles in the proverbial haystack, but they are out there.

I've never paid for a soundfont and never will )), but as a rule... DON'T EVER DOWNLOAD SMALL SOUNDFONTS!
