Im doing a project right now along the lines of (dandy warhols, beck, moby)Ill be playing guitar/bass and singing. This is my setup right now. I have a really tight buget since I just bought all this stuff.

So I have a Ibook computer running cubase.
With my rack system being in a 12 rack case :
Juice Goose Power Conditioner -1
Presonus firepod- 1
me35t trigger - 1
Akai s6000 - 4
Halfer power amp - 2

So I was thinking I needed what.. like a compressor, pre amp or eq ?
I have a buget of less the $350

I pretty sure that the firepod has preamps built in. I dont know how good they are.

Theres alot of stuff I still need to get for the studio .. Like the blue bird mic and alesis microkorg and a precussion pad. Should I get this stuff first ?

I don't see any mics at all, look there first!

The CAD M179 is a great all purpose inexpensive condensor, great workhorse mic. An SM57 wouldn't hurt you either.

I agree with War, sort the mics out first.

The SM-58 will definitely have it's uses but for recording you really want to try out some condensor mics for vocals. Who knows maybe you have a voice that suits a dynamic but you should at least try some different things to see what sounds best.

Not sure about the pres in the firepod, you might want to get one nice preamp to go with your vocal mic/s. Get a Preamp with DI and you could use it for the bass too.

My own preference is to track without any processing and add that stuff if needed at mixdown using VST effects/processors. You said your budget is tight and decent rack gear costs lots of money.

You'll have to think about a decent set of monitors as well but I guess you've thought of that as you have the hafler.

yeah you should pick up a good cheap condensor Mic .The SM-58 is really a stage mic with limited uses in the recording feild.
Don't buy a preamp unless you've got at least $700-$800 TO SPEND otherwise it's likely to sound like the preamps you already HAVe ! :D

Firepod preamps are fine... if you want super quality you could use a special pre for some channels, but I dont think it is needed. I'm a happy firepod user, thats for sure.

I wondered what your ibook specifications are... I'm thinking of buying one, but i'm not sure of it handles what i intent to do with it... that is running 8 channels via a firepod into cubase with some plugins... Can you tell me that?

I was gonna buy the ibook.. but I changed my mind at the last minute.. I went on ebay and snagged one for new in mint condition for $800. So Im gonna go with that. Sorry I could help you out more. but i hear using the Ibook it everything work fine.
