I need to cut my OC703 fibreglass tonite and fit it into my bass traps. Hopefully I will have the 2 bass traps up in the front of my mix position!cincy_kid said:having probs Gorty?

I still have not been brave enough to cut the fiberglass. I know people say its not a big deal and to just wear long sleeves and gloves (and maybe a dust mask)... but so far I have kept mine in whole 2'x4' sheets. I am afraid that will change real fast though as I start to put together the control room area. I was hoping to maybe get some of the Bonded Logic stuff and cut it instead of the 703, but I dont know if thats going to happen...
I peeked up in my attic tonight for the first time for a different topic entirely and saw so much fluffy fiberglass it was unbelieveable. I must have accidently brushed against it because now my arm is itching like crazy. Make sure you cover up!!!

Ok, these are my bass trap frames. They are smaller than the average trap because of the smallish room they are going into. They measure 12" x 36" x 3". I have routered the edges on a 45 degree angle so they sit snug into the corner which also helps to centre them across the corner.

This is the 0C 703 and the first piece has been cut out. The OC 703 is 2" thick.

This cloth is getting stapled to the frame to cover the OC 703. This is the back of the traps. You can see that my frames are only 3" deep and I have two sheets of 2" OC 703 in the frames. You can see the routered angle on the wood for the corners more clearly here. I also trimmed the edge of the OC 703 on the same 45 degree angle.

I used a nice sharp Stanley blade to cut the OC 703, it cut through like butter. I wore gloves and some disposable paper overalls to keep the itch away! The cloth is just black cotton, not very heavy, you can breathe through it quite easily.

That's it!! I used a Stanley Trimmer with an extendable blade so that you can cut through the OC 703 without too many passes. You will want the blade to be able to be at least as thick as the OC 703. It's easier that way!
