it's called "Pod-1"

i used nowhere radio, so i could burn a 160 kbps mp3....... sounds a 'little' bit better than standard 128.........

This is my first recording with the new POD XT.

it's not a song, per se....

simply, a means to experiment with the different sounds and effects.

i laid down 4 back to back section "grooves" with the drum machine, then tracked a bass part (through the pod) and 2 to 3 guitar parts (in stereo) to each section....

now of course, this is a 160 kbps mp3, so it's not going to sound as good as a wav off of a cd.....

but it should show some of the POD versatility.....

The drums were recorded dry......

The bass was recorded through the pod using a "tube amp" model, and no speaker model...
basically, a tube direct.....

All guitars were recorded using the same electric, my custom strat hybrid with the seymore duncan lil 59 in the bridge, and the bill lawrence singles in the middle and neck positions......

all effects are directly from the pod. the guitars were all recorded direct and dry, with no eq til mixdown.....
so the idea was, to give a fair approximation of what the guitars sound like coming right off the pod.......

this mix was done to showcase the sounds of the pod....... not to mix a tune....

i'll give more details on the amp models used per track, speaker models per track, microphone models (yes, microphone) per track, effects per track........ later.

LINE 6 is the shit!!!!

I don't have speakers at work but i can check it out later. I have the POD XT and the thing kicks my arsehole in.

Ive got a pod 2 do you have any familiarity with it? if so, do you think the xt is worth all that extra money?
sounds like your getting great sound/tone out of the xt but then again You may be one of those that gets great sound out of a $100 guitar.:D :D

The only way I can get sound like that is to play an MP3 or CD :(

I also listened to daybreak!! Excellent!!!!

Peace
Bill

Very Cool, sounds Killa:cool:

What is the Difference in Sound Between the Pod2 and XT?

Have you played with a J-station? If so, will it come anywhere close to this sound? Sounds awesome.

thanks for the comments!

first, my apologies.......
there is some added brightness to the recording......the brightness may be coming from my over zealous application of "enhancer" when i was mixing/mastering.......
the original tracked sound coming out of the speakers was sparkly, and bright, and very authentic.....
but after going into the vs in mt1 mode, then getting bounced down, then getting bounced one final time to a stereo pair, then getting mastered, i lost some high end clarity, and tried to put it back at mastering.....
my bad.

this is so different sounding than the 2.0.........

analytical man
get back with me, when you get a chance to check it out.... i'd be real interested to share settings or info.......

wfaraoni
i've only played through a 2.0 once...... i didn't like it.....
the xt is totally different, in that it adds different amp models, more of em, way more cab models, and added room effect....... plus all the effects those guys have come up with, a ton more....
thanks for the props on daybreak.... that was my taylor 414 with a single mic.....

davidK
the biggest differences of the 2.0 and the Xt, i outlined above......
i haven't played the j-station........

i had only spent about 6 total hours with the thing when i recorded this.......
since, i've gone back and really started tweaking, and in fact, there's nothing left of the original parameters on any of these memory settings! LOL

i liked the blackface reverb, the marshall plexi-variac, and the soldano sims the best.....
there is a mark 2c model in there, i just haven't tweaked it enough to know whether i'd use it or not.....

the solo, at the end, is the soldano SLO-100 model, with the british 4x12 with 25w greenbacks, and the 57 on axis mic model, with about 20% room ............

Hey i got to listen to your sounds. I really like the last ones the best. The kinda bluesy-ish one. What were your settings on that. Sounds good. I think Pod xt blows away 2.0, and previous models. I also own a J Station and it floors that as well.

Are there any computer plug-ins that even come close to this type of sound?

great playing..

since this was more af a pod xt test, I was hoping at some point to hear some straight up saturated/rectified rhythm sounds without any effects other than distortion.. I always find that to be a good test.. pinned gain without compression/reverb or anything else.. Pod Pro (and 2.0) gets messy in that area and I would like to see if they improved on that.. J-Station holds up a little better in that dept.. also the Sansamp..

great playing, nasty ass drums though.. :)

i appreciate all the comments......

ana-man
yeah, the last one, that solo tone, is the closest to what will become my "signature" tone with that device......that was the soldano slo-100 amp.... through the british 4x12 w/24 greenbacks, sm57 on axis and 20% room mixed in.....

davidK
amp farm.

b. sabbath
nasty ass, eh?.........
hm..... gonna have to do something about that......

anyway, there are good straight mp3's right off the line 6 site. fairly straight sounds.....
i like the straight amp sounds pretty much.... only, to get any real vibe off of them, i have to turn my monitors WAY up........
i still haven't experimented with the pod xt output to my mesa in 'power-amp' mode.....
i'll try that next......

my friend has a pod and really likes it. i don't know anything about them or about electric guitars in general but i really like that stuff you're doing at 1:20!

ok, that drum beat you got going at around 2:16 is offensive!

you play very well though, i enjoyed this much.

Hey Gonz,
The amp sounds cool man.... The tones you picked were nice too. Ive got a j-station that i am totally unhappy with for heavy guitars. I just cant seem to get away from sounding real processed sounding :( Your sounds are way better than mine, but even that new pod has a "not recorded w/ a mic" sound to it doesnt it. It has mic modelling right? ...what do you think of it?
g

...Great playing btw:)

thanks for all the good replies......!

erichenryus-
you had me laugh out loud, dude.......!
"offensive", yes sir ree, it is offensive.......

LOL

i just took some stock beats out of my drum machine, to get on with it.....
maybe i should have programmed something from scratch, eh?

Guernica-
this does have some good "heavy guitar" type amp and cabinet combinations....i'm just starting to get into them.....
i think that this one is a huge improvement over the other one, and i think getting the "not recorded with a mic" sound, is a function of tweaking the "room" settings in the mic model section......
it has 4 different mic models.......
Shure SM-57
Shure SM-57 Off Axis
Sennheiser MD-421
Neumann U-67

then it lets you adjust the position of the mic and how much of the room you hear.....
i've got to spend more time tweaking, and recording, and listening to what happens on the final mix part, to figure out how to dial this function in correctly...........

Hmmmm, makes me want to buy one...good advertising!

Couldn't hear 'a song' though, you really should work on your songwriting ;) LOL

you're a funny guy, pedullist.......

:D

This is my first recording with the new POD XT.
it's not a song, per se....

yeah, i need to write something real for it.......

i'll start tonight!

i've got a new tune in the head, and it's simple and straightforward, and built around a vocal line.....

drums will be the hardest part.....

i've got a couple of good kit sounds in the drum machine, that are NOT what i used on this little pod demo........

I was kiddin' ya, Gonzo! :D (besides, anything containing notes is a song IMO)
