Yeah, I bet you play a little bass

I really liked the electronic song, very cool! :) A little too much reverb on the vocal of the non-electronic song (my computer just locked up so I don't have you page up any more, but you know the song I'm talking about), the vocals get way washed out and it's hard to understand the words.
Did you record them in Samplitude Basic, cause the recording sounded really clean.
How long have you been playing for?

I've been playing guitar for 4 years & 8 months and drums 1 month less, and kinda dinked around on friends basses and pluck my acoustic and pretend it's a bass. :D And the lady that I'm doing the recording for at my church started giving me keyboard lessons a few months ago, (and I'm giving her son drum lessons, so it works out great) but I've been bad and haven't really been practicing (can't seem to tear myself away from this site :D). And I don't even attempt to sing as I mentioned before, but I can whistle pretty good. :o

As soon as I can find someone to sing, I'll try to get a song posted up somewhere and rock music just doesn't sound right without vocals.

Ps. I've heard that MP3.com takes a while to get a song put up on their site, how fast is garageband.com? Or if you know of any other good (fast) sites that would be great too....for when I do finally get a song done.

Ive been playin guitar for about 10 years, drums about the same and bass not that long, (not that great) I too have just picked up keyboards this year but feel real at ease playing them, I like it. Thanks for listening, the reason theres so much fx/verb on the pop song is because I SUCK at singing:( and had to cover mistakes as much as possible! I just did that song for my wife, but hardly ever sing. Garageband took a little while because you have to listen to about 20 songs of others before they let you post one up. I am looking for some where else though to put them up, and a few others:rolleyes:

Don't be ashamed of your "bad" voice, get it out from behind all that wishy-washy reverb, and say to the world HEY I HAVE A BAD VOICE AND I DON'T CARE!!! AND I'M NOT GONNA HIDE BEHIND A WALL OF REVERB!!! :D (and personally I think that adding a ton of reverb acually sounds worse, so give it a try without it)

But seriously, I really liked your playing alot, and you were serious about "sorta playing the bass"?!? I thought that was a joke when I heard the song, like "yeah I sorta play bass" *wink* *wink*. It was really very good. :)

I can tell that you feel "at home" on the keyboards and for just starting this year that's pretty dang good. I pretty much did that same thing with the drums and guitar, but I just can't really seem to get that "connection", that "be one with your instrument" sorta thing when playing the keyboards like I did when I first started drums and guitar, but I'm sure it will come as I get better at it......I gotta remember to practice though. :D

Why are you wanting to change off of garageband, if you're already on there? Do you have to listen to 20 songs for each song you put up? :D

Im telling my secrets here... I didnt play that bass on the pop song, that was generated:) But the tech song i did. Im not wanting to get off of garageband just maybe find another "easier" site to post because yes, you do have to listen to 20 songs for every ONE that you can up load!:( and you have to write a 50 word review for each one, (that takes awhile!) Oh well they need the feedback just like I do. I will try to sing it again without reverb, thanks for the advice! Practice, practice, practice and if that s not enough? PRACTICE some more...:D You got to get something here so i can hear what you play.

WOW, sure coulda fooled me on that bass part, usually synth bass parts sound mechanical and don't groove like that one did, good programming. :)

As soon as you find a good MP3 site, let me know cause I wanna get something up too....but then there's still that issue about the singer. Maybe I'll just get the music down and when I find someone to sing I'll add vocals later......or if worse comes to worse I could always have my sister sing. But seriously she is good, but I just like guy singers better for rock, ya know what I mean? ;)

Do you have any songs recorded where you play the (non-electronic ;)) drums?

-tkr

Ps. Until you do get a new site, why don't you just copy and paste "it was good" over and over again for your 50 word reviews? :D

Shem, I enjoyed the electronic song a lot. I was gonna say it sounded like Depeche Mode, but I saw that they influence you.
I Played with them, but dont know much about them.

Your vocals are fine, think of Lou Reed then put them up front.

you played with them??!!! Wow, tell me all about it , please. I love D.M. , Im kinda young but when i was 14 they came out with " enjoy the silence" and ive listened to everything they have and love all of it (there were a few from the early 80s that are kinda cheesey though:D ) I am going to see them at an amphitheatre in Wa. next week and i cant wait!!!!!!!! Thanks for the review, i appreciate that. Maybe one day I will feel better about my voice. Do you have any songs to hear?

Shem, in 95 I played with DM. They were touring and had 3 or 4 songs with string quartet, so Instead of bringing one on the road they just hired one for one night in the town they were in. (Really easy parts.)

We didnt even rehearse, just a short sound check before the show. I didnt even meet the band, after our third tune we could leave, so sorry for a boring story

Check out http://www.geocities.com/dkempers/dkempers.html?962145609960 for a few other bands I play with.

I will be posting stuff very soon. I do weirdo music that takes for ever and is really complex, so it is taking a long time to get stuff ready, but soon I will have a couple in the can.

David, Holy CRAP! Excuse me but i am blown away by your site and all that it entails... You are amazing! Its a wonder a musician of your caliber is even chatting with wanna bes like me. I dont get it. We should all feel thankful for your time listening and answering our questions.:) I would LOVE to hear something you have, what type of music are you especially interested in playing? Too its alot to ask but i just recently posted another tune i enjoyed putting together if you have time I would feel privileged to have your critique, its at www.garageband.com/artist/shem and is called little 15, a variation of Depeche Modes hit. Thanks for reading and listening.

Thanks for the compliments Shem, but when it comes to home recording I am just like anyone else around here, just trying to figure this stuff out. However, this morning I got a really great gig:

I am playing with YES on aug. 10th. That is exciting for me, because I was a big fan of theirs, so that should be fun, and it is close to my house!

I will check out your stuff this afternoon, Cheers.

Shem, I checked out that site, and it says " Temporarily down for Maintainence", so I will try it again later. As far as music I enjoy playing, I enjoy playing for people who pay me well!!

Seriously, the good thing about being a well-rounded Violinist is that I can play with many Different Genres, but for my own stuff I am doing fusion Classical-Rock stuff thats really heavy with Synths. I also do Modern Classical stuff like Bartok and Stravinsky, and rewrite the Orchestral parts in an abstract way for synths. I am also picking up a few "clients" now and recording their stuff in my house. Unfortunately, I dont have enough equipment to make a high-quality Demo, but I throw in some violin licks on everything I do and then people walk away happy.

I love symphonic music. I would love to try to do a "moonlight sonata" version with techno/electronic but the tab on the internet looks WAY complex!:( I wonder if there is just chords i could find for it? It sounds really cool what you are doing, I love classic rock and you plaing with YES sounds like a dream come true! What a life you have!

Hi shem,

I saw your post about needed to learn how to use PA9, and while I'm not sure I should mention this (since I don't want to break the rules here and post what may seem like an advertisement), but you might want to check out my Cakewalk Power book. It walks you through all of the features in PA9, step-by-step. You can find more info. on my web site (see below).

Best,
Scott

Thanks scott, yeah tekker, but hes got make his dough, I think i may go to amazon then to get it. Its more than just a few well composed questions im afraid to using c.w. 9!:D I will ask though if your still reading this post Scott, how do you monitor individual levels during playback? Tekker mentioned to mute each track and listen/watch but if I have 30 tracks thats alot of checking/unchecking!:(

Hi shem,

Unfortunately, that's the only way in PA9. If you really need individual playback meters, you would have to upgrade to Sonar.

Best,
Scott
