man I've been getting a lot of bad rep just for asking questions. or sometimes for no reason at all. just a lot of harrassment. i guess there are just some really douchey people out there with nothing better to do.

If it sounds good use it, what the hell is the problem?

When directed toward gear snobs, I'd agree. For a relative novice like me, it's about getting suggestions and direction to get ahead of the curve. Since I don't have a lot of time and capital to try out a lot of equipment, it's worth it to me to hear others opinions on what has and hasn't worked. After spending a couple 3 hour sessions trying to get one decent track, I was beginning to realise that my mic (samson-dynamic) was creating a GIGO situation (I'm a damn good guitar player and I know tone). So based on what I've read on this board, I'm going to get a 57. Not because it's the best for what I'm doing, but simply because I will know what I have to work with and can feel confident in that piece of equipment. I know that mic can get the sounds I want to tape, so now it's just up to me to make it happen!

I want to know what's BEST!!

but for less than $100. it has to work on flute, kick drum and oud, and sound just like a neumann.

cheers,

We are obsessed with (1) buying new stuff because it's fun, while (2) having any sort of justification that spending huge amounts of money is the "smart" thing to do.

Or something like that....

it's also a matter of getting other people's opinions. What sounds good to you may not sound good to the rest of the world, especially if you're relatively new to mic use.

If you don't own it yet, how can you use it? These folks are trying to get some info BEFORE they put out the bucks. That doesn't seem too difficult to understand...now does it? Am I gonna have to walk all over your face!!?

................. :p

We're just afflicted with the "same question over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over andover and over and over again" syndrome.

Most microphones will also function as a very effective phallus symbol, and people are wont to place great import on such things.

Check this out:

"I really like Telefunken U-47's"

I guess she had expensive taste.
