This is one of those situations where a sampling rate higher than 44.1K might come in handy, but only if the deck itself can actually pass enough high frequencies to be worth it. All of the frequency content on the cassette will be shifted up an octave - frequency doubled - and if that puts it above the limit of one or other piece of gear in the chain, then you're going to lose that top end. The times when I've done similar things it wasn't a huge deal because there really wasn't much in the top octave anyway, and I was happy to get even a lo-fi transfer, but you (and others) might be a bit more picky.I've thought about sending the tracks to audacity at 3.5, cut it back to 1.75 and record the tracks back on the 244. Then when I'm finished, record it all back again to audacity, double the speed and record it back to the original tape. 4 channel audio interfaces are pretty pricey though......
Not to mention, it seems to kind of defy the spirit of the project.
