oh, so maybe my fat/smooth adjectives were fine then? i mean, yeah, i don't crank the tone...yeah that's a sick sound lol but it's ear piercing, too. i think it sounds cool with the tone a little less than 12:00...but even when it's at 0, it sounds great

hey guys, i made some shotty soundclips..check em out!

- my '89 single coil strat..starts off w/o the pedal, then it goes on, and random switching

- here's the parker, with seymour duncan hums in it..starts off w/o it,t ehn gets turned on

- parker again, but with the OC2. first sound is SD-1 off, then it comes in..if you notice, it gets chuggier and cooler sounding, just like i like it!!

- parker again, just playing with the SD

i like it, honestly. i think it adds some nice dimension!

i'm looking into the SD1 and it seems like it sounds pretty much alike...one guy on youtube even said he's got two TS9's, modded, and he STILL keeps the SD1 in his chain because he likes the tone better!

Trust me, the SD1 is no TS9.....I've bought and modded both, the SD1 is gone, the TS is still here.... of course if you buy the SD1 and stick with it then you'll never miss what you dont know, and the SD1 is definitely cheap-er

After listening to your clips I would say stick with the SD1. For the sound you seem to be going for, the TS isn't really what you need, imo

I've never heard an SD-1 described that way before. Harsh, nasty, raspy, and buzzy maybe, but never creamy or luscious. You could have bought a TS7 tubescreamer which sounds much better than the SD-1 for the same price.

Is that their grey pedal? If so, I have to disagree.

Sounds like he's happy with his current choice.
If he's happy, he's happy. Seems pointless to argue beyond the post where he said he was thrilled with it.

I have an SD-1 and a TS-9. They both have their redeeming qualities...as do my Marshall DriveMaster, Ibanez Mostortion, and whatever other bullshit pedals I have stuck in a box.

Enjoy your SD-1. If it fits your demands, more power to ya'.

thanks for the suggestions from everyone though, because i mean i like buying random shit and putting it to use lol...i already had a booster pedal, my marshall guvnor, but that has a 3band EQ on it, plus deep settings....so like, it added further to my EQ. i wanted a TS9 or the SD-1 because it's simple and there's no eq...so it just sort of colors your distortion, rather than EQ'ing it too. so now i have the guvnor set up to max gain for when i play completley clean channel to get some harsh disto, since well i dont have the marshall channel switcher pedal lol

I play a Keeley modded TS-9. It's basically built to the Stevie Ray specs with the same chip he used in the 80's. It has incredible range of tones using the tone knob. I've played shows with guys that have a board full of fulltone pedals and they call me a "Tone Master". That pedal works well with a compressor and can be found relatively cheaper used. Check out the lutherdrive pedal on youtube. The videos are by username Gearmanndude. He makes these pedals and sells them for $107 shipped. They are KILLER! If I didn't have this TS-9 I would have bought one already.
