Thinking of converting my cellar

I was planning on doing as you said with the windows and doors and airconditioning. Sound leakage isnt too bad, I mean they already hear me in the next room playing guitar, a little thumping wont be bad. Thanks for everything, I'll let oyu know how it gets on.

Hello Druw. Say, I know you only want to make this into a usable space. But when people start talking about "soundproofing", especially to isolate drums, sometimes a reality check is in order. Hence the red flags. ;) Good luck with your project. Pandamonk is right on with his suggestions and plain english too :p Don't hesitate to ask for help as you progress. I DO see one thing. Being stone, and an ARCHED ceiling to boot, acoustics will be interesting to say the least. You are lucky. You start with an RT-60(reverb time) of 10 seconds  :D and work backwards with absorption till you nail it! I'd definitely think about investing in some broadband/low frequency absorption panels.

It's just a practice studio though.

Hi,
Im thinking of playing drums (I already play the guitar) but I haven't got much space for the drum kit (electric or acoustic). I was thinking of asking my dad if he would convert the cellar into a kindof studio for me an my friends.

Im thinkin of something like this:
Wooden floor
Carpets
Soundproofing for the ceiling and trap door so I dont disturb parents
Wiring for lights and outlets
Old couch (which we have)
and of course the drums which ill probably be buying + my 2 guitars and amp

The cellar walls are 1-2 metres thick (its a 200+ year old house with a war shelter connected to the cellar which will be closed up) so no need for soundproofing there (or is there?) neigbours wont mind as theyre barely ever home.

How much do you think this will add up to? In US dollars or British sterling? I live in Malta and our houses are very different to abroad, hence the use of a cellar not a garage or extra room.

Thanks alot!!!!

EDIT:What about humidity? I dont suppose that would be good for the guitars and drum kit? Will a simple dehumidifier do or would i need something more powerful? Its very very humid down there.

Druw,

Do your parents own this house? If so - don't ever let them sell it - that is freaking AWESOME!

I wouldn't permanently block off the way to the War Shelter, either.

No I'll never let them sell it after we do this. We won;t permanently close it off, my dad wants to put his wine in the tunnel leading to it.
