I currently have a Mesa Dual Rectifier head. I'm looking into selling it and the matching cab and getting something else. I want something with a nice heavy distortion...somewhat Mesa-esque but smoother. And it has to have great cleans...preferably Fender-esque.

Any suggestions?

Maybe you can use both a Fender and something else (like a Peavey) and use an A/B switch.

EDIT: I think a better place to start would be: What style will you be playing with it the most?

This guys amps look to be A-Freaking-Mazing. Hand built, Mercury Magnetics, 2 el34s and 2 6l6s, I can't wait to hear one. I hope he is at the Arlington Guitar Show.

I don't know if you'd be getting smoother than Mesa distortion but you would certainly getting a clean sound like no other. And, the distortion should be somewhat Marshallesque plus channel switching. If you have a recording studio this may be the unique guitar amp that everyone lusts for but can only get from you.

If you are in the least bit handy with a soldering gun, I'd suggest maybe building your own,...... a nice bunch of links to be had for that purpose,..... Email me, or I will post a few here...

Also along the same lines would be a kit,..... lots of those as well,....

and you may want to consider hunting around on Ebay, to get some clue as to average prices for your area,....

a nice way to do that by 'BRAND NAME' is,....

www.Prepal.com

"ask,... and ye shall recieve....."

Cobra. . .

Ch 1 - Fender-esque

Ch 2 - Thick, Smooth and Juicy

Ch 3 - Rectifier-esque

Why not a Mark II, III or IV?

Do you want another stack or would you consider using two combos instead? I would go with the two combos, many artists are going that route these days and are getting great results! Get a Fender if you want the Fender clean. I can't recommend a distorted amp for you as I don't play heavy music.

Marshall DSL100 and the 1960A cab. Simple, to the point and sounds like an orgasm both clean and distorted.
