I had trouble with my last few drum tracks. And then I realised my snare mic cable was farting out for the last who knows how long.

So, I think I finally it together again. Or at least, anything wrong now is in my hands, not a faulty wire.
Let me know how it sounds now, if you will. Thanx.

Hi dude,

Liking the song.

Drums sound nice and clear, although the snare sounds a little dry and seems to cut off short a little. Sounds like the attack has been shaved off it a tad, either by compression or EQ. Also, a little more energy in its release might improve the sustain, possibly a fraction more reverb on it too? It sound pretty good when the whole band are playing along, but on the fills when its just the drums its a bit more noticable.

Like the vocals and bass, but the guitars just a little fragile. A lot of my early mixes suffered from me taking out too much low end from the guitars, so this could be the case here. Obviously, its not driven heavy metal, so any changes would need to be subtle rather than extreme - its pretty close as it is. The other thing with the guitars, the left guitar seem more prominent than the right, could be my dodgy headphones, but they don't seem to hit the listener with equal impact.

Overall, however, I reckon its a tidy peice of work, and again, the vocal mixing is great.

Nice!

Hey Jim. thanx alot for that detailed critique.

I made the age-old mistake of mixing down not long after tracking, so I do notice now that the snare is a little dry. The last thing I worked on before mixing down was the drums, so I think it shows in their over-prominence. Especially the snare. I hardly compressed it, so I know that's not the problem. I think if I take it down a notch and wet it a bit more, it will be better.

The guitars are the only thing on this tune that I didn't re-track recently, so they probably have to get re-done. They are a little wimpy.

Thanx alot for the advice. Good ears, my friend.

Top tune Rami, I love the sound of the Drums, the bass drum has a real neat kick to it that works really well with the other instruments. Vox are quality, very Crosby, Stills and Nash or at least very West coast America sort of sound. Only bit i found odd was the lyric "madman inside me, sitting on my shoulder" kinda fucks a bit with my head but I'm an existentialist, so it should do i guess. :D

Hehe....thanx alot Gumble.....I'm not even sure about the whole "Madman Inside Me" thing, to be honest. It could imply being violated by a lunatic.

But the "sitting on my shoulder" came from the image of the devil on one shoulder and an angel on the other....I might change the lyrics and/or title to this anyway, because of some of those phrases that I'm not crazy about.

Thanx, dude.

That actually made me laugh pretty hard. In fact i haven't Laughed that hard since i saw the film Mannequin on sale for 50p in a petrol station.

NOICE NOISE RAMI!
I quite like the snare as is. I comprehend re the last part while mixing being the most prom. The bass drum is more in my face but I'm not uncomfortable with it - quite like it actually.
I'd not offer that the guitars are whimpy - I think they sound great and they sound like guitars as well. Not OVER effected.
You always seem to manage such a succinct bass line & sound that I'm becoming tres jealous.
TOP ending too.

Thanx alot Ray.....:)

I re-mixed it and worked on the guitars and drums a bit. Hope this is better.

I can't edit my original post, so that link is no good any more.

Here's the new link:

Madman Inside Me

I heard that but, I thought it was my dog;)

Sounds very cool. Chorus vocals are fantastic (love the melody, very catchy!) except the end where the backups go away and it's just the lead vox it's pretty buried.

Drums sound killer as always!

Like he zip (for lack of a better word) out at the end.

Great job.

Very nice, RAMI.

Drums are dry and tight.

At "now I've got the starring role" it would be nice to hear a straight double of the lead vocal or perhaps a "toob"/lofi effect, just to underline it and make it "pop".

Guitar solo is a little too quiet and perhaps a little dry. Nice little solo, bro. Perhaps after the solo you could add a little call-response with the vocal/lead guitar. Anyway, with a great track bed like this you could go just about anywhere.

Thanx alot, guys. I just put up a new mix based on what you both said.

F.S. I brought up the vocal at the end of the choruses. They were buried. Thanx, man.

Casey, I loved your idea about doing something lo-fi with the vocals in the "B" parts. I tried something. I think it makes that part more interesting. Thanx for the suggestion. I might not keep the effect I used, but I'm definitely going to end up doing something along the lines of what you're talking about.

Here's a new mix:
MADMAN INSIDE ME

i just put up a new version. I re-did the vocals, changed some lyrics, and changed the chorus. Which means I changed the title. :)

It's now called "MADMAN AND ME"

I changed the links so many times that there are too many dead links in this thread. And it's impossible to go back and edit old posts. So I'm going to coninue this thread in a new one.

Thanx for all the responses. I made a lot of changes to this tune based on the advice I got.
