I'm writing an instant messenger program and needed a small tune to play in the background while installing it.

It's a short little song that's going to be played on repeat for the few minutes it takes to install the messenger.

Tell me what you think. It's just something I came up with off the top of my head.

Maybe I can add another instrument to it? I don't know, I don't really have any ideas. If you do let me know.

Download (900 KB)

Sounds fine for a relaxing installation.

What type of IM program are you writing? Just a basic connection between several computers, or a server based connection similar to AIM/Yahoo? I wrote a simple IM program several years ago in RealBasic (basically VB for macs). Very easy to get the protocol working, not so easy to expand on the idea. I wish you luck!

Thanks. :)

It's going to be a very large instant messenger like Yahoo, but with a lot more features. So it will be a very big project. :o

I'm making it in VB 6, but I may have to rewrite it in .NET since Vista won't support VB6 in the future.

If anyone has any suggestions on what to add to it, or anything, let me know.

Sounds good - the V on the end brings it nicely back to the I on the beginning if it loops... Cool playing and great tone also.....

:) :D :) :D

dude. definitely need to have the voice chat thing in there.... and if possible better sound quality than AIM has haha. but anyways nice tune and it does loop really well

Thanks blackhawk.

Voice quality will be selectable by the user. People can also create their own rooms. I'm thinking of using MP3 streaming instead of downsampled (22 KHz/8-bit/mono) WAV files like most messengers use.

And the bitrate will be selectable, 96-320KBPS.

Thanks again.

Nice relaxing tune. Very clear sound. The installation will be pleasant and that may result in more enjoyable first impression of the software. I doubt the installation would take too long, but if it does I could hear doubling the loop and adding a lead on top sounding nice too. THen add grizzly bear sound effects on top (jk) :)
