...well maybe not, I'm just trying to get attention. I did this song with my girlfriend one day. I recorded the vocals with some crappy Peavy dynamic mic and everything else was DI. If you have time to listen to this and leave a comment or two, rip it to pieces. Don't hold back, everything from the recording to the mixing to the songwriting... I want the brutal truth. Thanks.

hey, silver_addict, here's my un-expert review...

there's a lot of sibilance going on... try re-encoding the mp3 at a higher bit rate? i understand it's called "the alien song" and you may be going for that other-worldly sound, but this seems a bit drenched in effects. the drums are particularly tinny at times and some parts seem to have a little too much reverb.

about halfway through the song there's a part where you're singing over your gf's voice and it sounds like you did that take with a totally different setup or something. but otherwise i think your voices work well together.

The background ambiance is too forward, and the music too far in the background most of the time.

The guitar sounds pretty hollow.

Bass line is too big, jumps around in levels--compress that puppy!

Vocals need some de-essing. They also need to be more prominent.

The drums are really nasty sounding... like you ran noise reduction on them. Also, they are so soft the song has zero pulse. Instead you chose to put all the background stuff in the foreground. ???

With some re-tracking and better mixing this could be pretty cool. It's like The Cure meets T'Pau.

very cool, i love all of the effects and all, and the main little riff thing is very "cure-ish" great vocals, ,, what effects were used on the vocals? if any,.
i'm definitely not an expert, but my opinion is the song is awesome as is, ,, ,

Mixing wise, I'll leave it to the experts.

I like the song. The guitar is occasionally sloppy, but it's well written. If I were you I'd try and keep it down to about 3mins45 if you plan to do anything with it properly. Nice one.

Oh and did you auto tune your vocals harshly in one bit, or is that effect meant to be there?

Sounds pretty DJ Shadow/Radiohead ish. Which is a good mix.

Thanks for the feedback. I know I have a lot to work on. At some parts my computer was doing strange things with the tracking on it's own so that's why it might sound like a bunch of different set ups. I also did use the auto tune harshly on purpose at one part, I'm not sure if I like it though. Any thoughts? I have a 4 minute arrangement that I'm going to do and I'll try to use some of the comments I've read. Thanks.

try to keep your songs under 1 megabyte
WHAAAAAT?!

Cool vibe...what's the weird ambience I am hearing? There is a dullness to the music and the vocals are eating all the detail behind. There is some massive compression and stuff going on here. It's like you got some things too present and others way too dull.

Yeah, way too close on the vocals. The music could use some mix help but it's hard to say what with the vocal coming in so loud over it.

The guitar sounds too direct. Some of the lyrics seem too hokey or pasted together. Not that it's bad but maybe the performance doesn't deliver the "message" whatever it may be.

She sounds hot even if she is IN my ear.

The auto tune is freaking out sometimes.....yikes.

The mp3 is also really bad and makes the mix really hard to judge. Do you have a spot you can downlaod a short clip of the music in wav.?

The part where the girl sings, its really catchy. With a good recording, it'd be pretty good.

I also really like the piano bit at the end, really gives it good feel. Good job, try doing a better recording later! ;)
