Hi guys! I wanna upgrade my vocal mic (right now an old NT1). The idea is to get into high-end mics...
My budget allows me to choose only 1 mic... And i need to cover different styles (jazz, fussion, rock, pop)... I wanna spend +/- 1000 bucks...
I´m really interested on the U87, and i saw it on ebay for that price...
What do you say? Any other ideas?
(Btw, i will use it mostly with an M5)

If you want a U87ish mic, take a look at the Geffell UMT70 line. Much cheaper and in my opinion sounds a little more versatile (smoother top end, but still very present).

That's a good suggestion from xstatic on an excellent mic – the Gefell UMT70S FET. It has the M7 capsule and is an excellent and more affordable alternative to the U87. Also there are two Peluso multi-pattern tube mics that run under $1K – the 22 251 and the 2247. Very serious mics. The Soundelux U195 is another good option. Julián, what are you recording and what kind of sound do you want?

I have just 4 mics, so i need a condenser to use it as my MAIN mic. Mostly to record voices, but if i can use it to record maybe string or whatever, i would be great...
I was thinking on the 414B-ULS or the U87 ´cause i know how great this mics are...
But i´m open to suggestions... and i´m looking foward to hear the Gefells and the Soundeluxs..
Am i missing any other great mic?

THE vocal mic for ME so far has been the Lawson L47. Its the best I have heard yet on my own voice. But there's a mic out there for every different voice. Sometimes a great mic you've heard just doesnt work for you. Rental places are the best, where you can find out just what works for you.

What kind of preamp do you use? You might get way more mileage with a better preamp and less expensive, but kickass mic.

My current vocal setup is an ADK TC through a Groove Tubes Brick preamp. And for my voice, it's magical.

I´m using the M5 for vocals, and i use my firepod to record drums mainly.
I´m not a singer, so i´m not really worry about a mic that works "for me"... I need a great vocal mic that could fit as many session as possible... i know it´s hard, but i would like to know every option before purchasing.

You should do some research on the ADK TC. It is killer. And can be had for under 500 bucks.
I also have an Audio Technica 4047SV that I love. This is another mic in the under 500 dollar range that is great on vocals. But something about the TC just does it for me.
Save the other 500 bucks, because you'll soon want a better pre.

 I´m happy so far with the M5! Why do you think i should save money for another pre?

You're talking about an Avalon?? My bad.
Sorry!

Definitely look at the 4047 or TC mics. They will obliterate the NT1 for not a lot of dough...and they both sound great on just about anything. Especially vocals.
