Here's a new tune. This is the first mix of it. I've already heard a couple things wrong like the guitar on the right is a little louder than the left side guitar. I need to remove the compression from the overheads to I think.

Kickin' tune, man! Loved the song. Mixwise, I hear the vocals needing to come up and out in the mix. A little level and a little more high end. The drums are audible, but would bring up front a little more to keep up with the bass and guits. Again, rockin' tune!

I agree with Seeker, but my take would be that there is far too much guitar, I would like to hear more of the singer. I think it's very good but all I can hear is distorted six string!

The last thing I did was jack the guitars up a little cause I though they were a little weak. Guess I should have left them alone.

Gits sound great to me...as do the fake drums (kidding, kidding). The vocal's the weak link, I think. You know how to mix, lol...I'm not gonna' tell you anything you don't know, but I don't think the vocal fits the song.

It's hard to describe, but it's kinda' like having Steve Perry singing for AC/DC. I'm probably just digging myself a deeper hole here, lol. It sounds timid, and the song isn't. Couple of pitch issues too...and it's too quiet in the mix, but it's more the first 2 things.

I don't think the singers voice fits the tune very well either. I was wondering if that's what you was getting at. It's one of those things you have to deal with I guess. I like the S. Perry/AC/DC analogy. I think that may be one of the reasons I kind of burried it in the mix too. Thought it would help.

Okay now I'm just thanking God that it wasn't you singing, because I was getting really uncomfortable, LOL!! It's not that the guy can't sing, btw...I couldn't do this song either...

I'm not expert on Rock but I can hear that definitely the vocals sound drowned out by the guitar. And maybe the singer could have been a little more agressive. I dunno! Nice tune though!

How did I say it again...? oh yeah, vocals need to come up and out of the mix. More practically stated, being more aggressive in vocal delivery would be ideal for this song, IMHO, but if that is not an option I would kick the mids up on the v track, push the level a little more, and maybe add a bit (or more) chorus or a second v track to double (or copy the track a few times, depending on your recording setup). Vocals are good, just not 'in your face' yet, as the song seems to want. Again, love the tune!

I don't know about the guitars dudes. If you listen to Linkin Park for instance, their guitar sound is alot bigger even than this, and the vocals still cut through well.

I'd try to get the vocals as prominent as possible if you want to keep the guitars like this. EQ in some mid-high/high tone. Compress the shit (or little less than the shit) out of them, and turn them up till near clipping. However, the best thing would be retracking them. The lower notes seem to be hard for the singer to get out punchy. The highs come through well. I guess he just needs to learn to get more into the song and get more agressive.

Great bass intro Beeing a bassplayer myself, I can always get happy from things like that . I think your basstone could use some work though. Couldn't give you any really great advice but at the chorus/verses, when he's just grooving instead of freaking, it seems muddy.

I'm giving this a bump because I'm closer to a final mix now. The vocals are more out front. I also used the correct take on the vocals. Better delivery on this one. Going to post another song also.

I'm wondering if this is worthy of a professional mastering job?

Hey, do you record to tape? The music bed on this just has an analog sound to it, but not that cheap hissy Tascam 4 track swirly sound. It's a very good thing. I also like what you did with the top end of the kit actually. I don't know if it's compression or just EQ, but it sticks out in a good way on my system without being harsh.

I record to a HD24 through a big ole 32 channel soundtracs console. Could be the british mixer playing a part in the nice sound.

As far as the high end, nothing special. Matter of fact, the overheads are the cheap Audix fusion sd condensors (f15 I think). Although I used a baby bottle for a room mic about 6 feet out in front the kit. It has some pretty smooth top end.

I think I know what might be wrong with the drum sound in the other tune. I just remembered that I lined all the drum tracks up in this tune but not in the other one. Damn, I bet that's it.
