you guys have no idea how badly i want victory pete to end up being ed rei. really, really, REEEEEAALLY badly!!

Quite the contrary.

VP has posted unsubstantiated "facts" based on limited experiential evidence and when challenged - politely but firmly by many including but not limited to Muttley - has dug in his heels and played the victim card.

What you may construe as rudeness from Mutt is simply plain speaking, when addressing someone who is offering opinion as fact.

This may rankle you but it is not rude.

VP has subsequently offered himself up for whacking and has gotten whacked, and deservedly so.

I am not saying it is rude or I am "rankled" by it but, "I know and I ain't tellin'" certainly is not clarifying the dispute to the rest of us looking for why the dispute is taking place. Not every wrong comment is readily evident to all without public clarification.

If you are going to call someone out then point out what you are calling them out on and also provide a statement to back up your dispute otherwise you are just doing an equal disservice to the community.

I'll shall tell you what guy's. I shall make this easier on every one.

VP is now the resident Know-it-all expert. You want to know anything about how to maintain your guitar or how to approach fixing it. If you want any pointers or help with musical acoustics and how vibrational physics works or materials science and the way materials behave, then he's the man to ask.

If you need to know if doing x, y or z is going to help or hinder when you try a little bit of setup on your guitar give VP a shout. If any of you are interested in build threads and want to see some pics of how guitars are put together or repairs are done VP has a bunch of pictures and knowledge to share.

There is an added bonus that he has already displayed in quantity and that is that he doesn't have to restrict himself to that narrow field of expertise as I have in the past. No, VP will quite happily extend his hand of wisdom to the just about any subject you choose to want advice on.

Enjoy your new resident expert and I hope he gives you many years of trouble free service. Just one word of caution. Don't blind him with common sense, physics (or any kind of science), reason or question the validity of his experiences and observations no matter how suspect they may at first appear. Just have some blind faith in his judgement and all will be fine.

In the meantime I'll take a break from that role if it's ok with you all.;)

LOL@ you lot falling for the victim_pete card. :D

talk about playing the bawlbaby victim card, you started this bullshit, who cares if you and pete rip into eachother, i won't say who i really think should get banned or i'd get banned for saying it, but other than that, you like playing poker and you know it, i should say, you don't like playing you like winning..

at any cost

Brian, I would suggest that you perform a forum search for every post by VP. Start from the beginning and read. The forum post history provides all the substantiation that is necessary.

When you've finished your reading assignment, please provide your comments.

lol@freedom of speech on a message board

man, i would totly have that condition if i wasn't really so great.

Ever since VP has started posting on this forum Muttley has attacked just about every one of VP's posts with insult and with the purpose to incite VP to have to defend his each and every post.

I would make the same observation.

I'm not picking any sides between Muttley and VP, but because of the two of them, I have basically abandoned this entire forum. I don't know/care who is the cause and who is the effect (and this is not a request for any explanation), but doing nothing is (IMO) killing this forum.

Some folks here need to get a fucking life.

Sorry only one disease to a customer and I have you down for Elephantitis.

Elephantiasis
Definition
The word elephantiasis is a vivid and accurate term for the syndrome it describes: the gross (visible) enlargement of the arms, legs, or genitals to elephantoid size.

That syndrome will make you pretty popular at the beach. Especially when you wear your leopard print speedo.

Yeah...real recording is not as difficult as sequencing someone else's drum samples and MIDI patches, and stringing together a bunch of loops! :p

When I want opinions on subjects that are of interest to me, I consult the internet.

When I want absolute facts on subjects that are of dire importance to me, I consult a professional.

If somebody is, in your opinion, wrong in these (or any) forums, certainly point it out and defend your opinion. But don't ever expect absolute truth out of a medium that's founded on people's opinions.

In the spirit of quoting definitions, how about this one?

Merriam-Webster said:
Main Entry: fo·rum
Pronunciation: \ˈfȯr-əm\
Function: noun
Inflected Form(s): plural forums also fo·ra \-ə\
Etymology: Latin; akin to Latin foris outside, fores door — more at door
Date: 15th century
1 a : the marketplace or public place of an ancient Roman city forming the center of judicial and public business b : a public meeting place for open discussion c : a medium (as a newspaper or online service) of open discussion or expression of ideas
2 : a judicial body or assembly : court
3 a : a public meeting or lecture involving audience discussion b : a program (as on radio or television) involving discussion of a problem usually by several authorities

Discussion. Public, open discussion. Right or wrong, we discuss here. If you're after something else, then you need to look elsewhere.

We all have the opportunity to be wrong here. We all have the potential to have our opinions disputed as well. When posting on an internet forum, you must keep these things in mind.

This particular case has devolved into a downright childish sideshow. Seriously, gentlemen, you're all caught up in the wrong aspects of why we're all here.

If Muttley goes, I don't see much point in sticking around. Simple as. I don't care much about the VP stuff - I find his misinformed posts a little irresponsible, but the internet isn't infallible. HR is a very handy resource however, and people like Mutt have, time and again, solved simple and complex problems for those of us who live for guitar.

Don't worry about him ZB he hasn't got over getting a slap from Harvey G and myself when he started banging on about the acoustic behaviour of materials in speaker cab design.;)
