This is the third one in my solo project, all written/sang/performed by myself. Let me know what you guys think! I'm not sure if the mix is missing low-end components or not, it's hard for me to tell.
Does anyone have opinions on using electronic drums? I would like to get set up to blend in a real kit with samples, but I'm not there yet money-wise. Big interfaces + lots of mics are expensive. Currently I'm using Superior Drummer's Avatar kit. Anyone else have experience on making fake drums sound less... fake?
It takes time. In your tune for example you could mix 2 or 3 different snare sounds (add the side stick in some places) and change velocities during those repeated parts. Start the roll softer and increase the velocity. It means a lot of time editing, but anything worth doing requires work.
You have a lot of things working for you here. Your voice is great and the whole vocal track(s) is really well done. You certainly know how to mix LOUD lol. The guitars sound good for the song.
The things that need some work are the drums as you are already aware. Did you program them all from scratch or did you use the beats already created for you? If you programmed them thats impressive. You just need to spend more time trying vary the velocity to make them sound more natural. I use Studio Drummer and it has a tightness knob that you can easily use to loosen up the beat so its not so rigid, you should see if yours has something similar.
