Hi guys, I've been looking at buying the Tascam US-800 as I want an audio interface with about 6 inputs for a reasonable price and at the moment this one seems to be on sale everywhere, is it being discontinued? Anyway Ive heard alot of people are having driver problems with this and was just wondering if anyone knows of any problems with Vista 64bit?

Is this the AI to buy or is there are similar one for around the same price?

Oh I use Reaper/ Cubase LE5.

Thanks.

Tascam seems to have discontinued the US-800. I haven't been able to get the skinny on it either, though many are taking advantage of the price. The last time I saw this happen was with the 1641. So I purchased one. They came out with the 1800, which is exactly the same unit with an external power supply and a black face. $100 more expensive. Not a single issue with my unit. I have never heard anything bad about the 800, so grab it while it is still available and see for yourself. It does not get any cheaper than $100 for a 8X6 interface.

BTW, the only relevant driver issues I have heard of with US line, involve trying to use with Protools. I don't believe that any Tascam interface will work with PT9 or above because of the way it controls buffer settings. Most complaints that I have heard of are based on user setup error or connection to a USB port that shares another streaming device. Any USB2.0 interface should have it's own designated hub (i.e. PCI USB controller). Drivers are usually blamed for problems here. Usually not the case.

Man, that seems to be a killer deal.
:p I'm tempted to get one just so I can record on my new laptop too... and I already have a us1800!

Well, I bought it when it was $249.99. You have to learn workarounds with this interface. Here is one of my posts. https://homerecording.com/bbs/user-forums-brand/tascam-user-forum/tascam-us-800-interface-316346/

oddley enough, just the other day I did a search on here about the tuscam US-800, and seen your thread..
seams like some odd isuues you had, and are still dealing with..I`ve never owned one, but have done some reading on the unit, along with some reports from other users/owners, and while I have read about a few issue`s here and there, it seams that most did`nt have any problems..I`ll know myself before too long, as mine should hopefully arive in the next day or two..although it may be a few before i get around to hooking it up and testing..anyway, I`ll be back eventually with my experiance with the unit..

Seems most issues with any newer ,end up being an issue with setup or configuration on the computer it is connected to. Some much stranger than others. Typical home recording enthusiasts are not necessarily planning on doing recording on a professional level, and leave all the junk running on their desktop/laptop. IMO, the biggest issue typically is with a user not starting out recording with a fresh OS install and updated drivers. Seems to me there just ends up being screwed up crap going on on the computer before setting up a new interface. It ends up being a blind chase as to what the issue is. Typically the driver is blamed. Usually, it is not the case. I have been there. Once I went with a dedicated PC, problems vanished. My 2c. :)

Look forward to hearing your experience AL P. Please keep us informed.

Wish you the best figuring out your bugs squibble94.

Thanks. A while back I restored my computer without the built in crap and essentially had Windows 7 on it. Nothing else. I did a fresh install of my interface drivers and had the same problems. I've found quite a few work arounds in the process though. xD
