don't know details of "the history" of the development, but I'd say that the idea, that the distance between the centers of the reels does not have to be no less than the diameter of the reels is (was) pretty cool

how many minutes of tape would it hold, what reel size would that cassette be equivalent too, and sought of looks like a audio cartridge for radio adds or something?
