I've never played with any equipment before, and Im pretty sure Im going to get a midi controller and use soundfonts for a start. I just wanted to know, if this is the way to go for a fresh starter?

I could spend 2K on equipment, but I dont think Im ready. Ill cut to it, heres what I have in mind:

1. FruityLoops v3.5
2. Acid Pro v3.0
3. Cool Edit Pro v2.0

Now I just have to save up, but thoughts are welcomed.

...all depends on what you want to do with it. If you're looking to do hip-hop or techno type stuff using loops, then it's a good start. If you're looking to record complete tracked instruments for each song, then you'd want to look at something like N-Track or Sonar or Cubase.

Don't worry, once you get goin, you'll go through that $2000 in a heartbeat. You're probably doing the right thing by starting slowly to make sure you end up with what you want and not buying things you might not use.

Welcome to the board Dizzy. $2k is PLENTY of budget to get you started. But seanmorse is right, you'll go through it pretty quickly. Hang around here, do some searches through some of the forums, I'm sure there are threads that will peak your interest and provide some of the info you need. Research is your friend, no need to rush, especially when your talking about audio. Good Luck! :D

Seanmorse79, and Barometer are both correct. You should heed their warning. Take your time, do some searches, ask a million questions before you start spending money. ;)

You can flash through $2,000.00 in a heartbeat.

:D

P.S. Dizzie, welcome to our home, here at HR.COM. :)
