The Russian made Oktava mics?

Guitar Center sells these Russian Oktava mics. There's one - a large condenser- I think it's called MK-319 or something like that. Any comments on those?
 
RE? This is his department. Hes gonna tell you to stay away from the Oktava's they sell at Guitar Center and get one direct from the Sound Room tho.
 
Yeah, actually I'm thinking of boycotting them, anyway. I never especially liked their attitude, but after they sold me a set of used bass strings and then refused to take them back I don't even wanna bother anymore. It's a shame that Sam Ash doesn't carry all the brands, though. But with mics it's not a problem to order direct. I only don't order musical instruments direct :)

Do a search under Oktava in the Microphone Forum. You'll get all the info I have on Oktavas.

Then if needed, ask more.

The June 2000 issue of "Recording" magazine had a write up on these mics. They said it was an "excellent Microphone, but the quality control at the Russian factory is pretty bad". "Make sure you listen to it in the store before you take it home" They went on to say: "The real prize on the Oktava... is the omni capsule". Anyway, for what its worth, that's what was said about them. If you can find a copy of that issue, it might be worth your while to read it.
 
What are the more common problems of the defective units?

Is this true RE? I am curious of these mics as well.
 
Flat-out inconsistent.

Believe me. When I first started asking around what people thought of Oktava mics, I the repsonses were just as inconsistent as the mics themselves because people each one can sound COMPLETELY different from another. That's where The Sound Room comes in. And I'm trying to tell EVERYONE about it just like others did to me.
