hey, have you guys heard of that new roland all-in-one home recording package? i can't seem to find any name for it anywhere, that seems to be what they call it. but it comes with a mixer (pretty good, i think. with 2 preamps, a couple xlrs and phantom power), a new sound card, and logic software. because the mixer plugs right into the sound card through a computer parallel port, you can multitrack 8 tracks at once. well, it seemed like a good idea to me. but it is 700 bucks. what do you guys think? that, or should i build it piece by piece? should i just go buy a few preamps, a new soundcard, some software(or i could use n-track). thanks, i'd appreciate your opinions.

I've been using the Roland Studio Pack for a few weeks now and can honestly say it is hands down the best deal for the money.

Pre's are decent and clean. Reverbs are very clean.

The only down side is the learning curve. The VM3100 has a lot of options under the hood and the Logic software is hardly intuitive. If you are pretty familliar with mixers and DAW software in general than you should be able to get it going pretty quickly. It will take a while to really get into all the routing and editing possibilities but that is just because there are so many options available.

Also beware that the mixer ONLY WORKS AT A 24bit/44.1khz The card will go to 96khz but the mixer will not. If you have to have 96khz then dont get the Roland.

I have used many different recording systems for about 15yrs and highly recomend the Roland Studio Pack. It will work with any recording software and if later on you want to upgrade to ProTools or anything you still have a great digital mixer at a good price.
