The Right soundcard???

I record using mostly MIDI for my instruments and digital audio for my vocals. I currently have the SoundBlaster Live Platinum soundcard, and althopugh I have created some decent-sounding soundfonts, the overall fullness and quality of the instruments is not the best. Also, the digital audio has latency problems at times.

My question is this, which soundcard would fit the bill for me allowing me to record excellent digital audio and utilize some of the new software-based synths?

I have been considering the Echo Layla 24, would this work for my requirements?

Yes that a good card but expensive if all you are cosidering using it for is top record a few vocal tracks.

How about the Delta 1010? Lots of IO and also has the less common addition of MIDI ports.

The Delta Omni studio is a really popular choice. That would give you 4 in 4 out ( with two XLR mic slots with phantom power) and then you could get a cheap MIDI interfacte to hook up your synths. You could keep alternatively keep in your SB card to have continued use of its midi ports and soundfont capabilities.

softsynth performance doesnt rely too much on the soundcard....usually a nice CPU and loads of RAM are the key....there are some cards that have onboard DSP specifically to use for plugins and softsynth....the Creamware Scopepops into my mind.....

now, as far as digital audio goes, Ive heard some awesome sounding stuff done with a standalone preamp and converter going into the S/PDIF of the SB Live Platinum.......
