The Returners - catchy Pop Rock song "You're Starting To". Mix advice sought

I just recorded this with my friend and bandmate and am seeking advice on the mix, although any comments are welcome. This is the first true mix of this song I've done. I know there are some small things to fix (guitar hiss before it kicks in, autotune in certain parts etc). My friend is on rhythm guitar, acoustic guitar and vocals. I'm playing the drums, bass and lead guitars.

This was catchy right from the start (after the intro). You're right about the intro needing work, but once it gets going it's long forgotten - maybe redo it or drop it. The harmonies are great too. Guitar is just right for this type of tune - what the guitar and amp? The drums are good too - especially like the rolling toms they came out nice. Acoustic part at the end is cool too....
Great pop songwriting and good mix too.....

Thanks for the kind replies. The amp was an old Marshall tube amp (the model I can't say for sure as it was my bandmate's father's amp) miked closely with an SM57. The guitar was a Fender Stratocaster. Thanks to anyone who listened to it.

I cant really give any mix advice,..because i lo-fi'ed it. But it sounds like a good mix in mono. I like the singer,...and the song was pretty good for pop.
I dont really like the guitar sound,..but as previously said,..it fits the tune perfectly,..cant really think of any other type of sound you would want to use.

Take 'er easy,...

Hehehe... catchy tune... the first thing that I noticed however was that the chord progression in the verse is the same as "Cannon in D".. hahaha

The intro isn't that bad, but it would be great to have the song really kick when it first comes in... something to wake you up a little.

Nice job.

Thanks for the reply. Here's a second mix if anyone's interested. I touched parts of it up with autotune and changed the intro slightly.

Cool tune, I dig the production. It reminds me of being young. I played music like this, and I was even in a band called 'the returners.' seriously. we got it from a video game.

also,maxim rocks.

I used to play in a power pop band too. So I can get an nidea of how fun it was to play this.
The intro - well I LIKE IT - it does need something - double tracking? A bit of non metal overdrive or distortion at the last moment - something to tie it to the song.
Maybe even a rat tat a tat on the snare in the pause.
Vocals need to come up a little
The 1st guitar in the build section needs a little more colour - I get the need for dynamics but it's a little lifeless.
Hey, is it me or does the nowhere mob really run the download/buffering slowly? Soundclick isn't great but the streaming seems to move at a better pace. It's taken me 6 stops to get to 2.50
If you have Windows Media Player play the track with the folk preset EQ. It's subtle but give an interesting lift.
I know it's a cliche but I reckon the guitars need to kick in again to play the song out after the quiet section. Power pop is a form that thrives on cliche & playing with in & around them. You could just lift a chorus section without vox & paste it onto the end & I'd walk away swinging.
Very nice work
Cheers
