Hey everybody. A while back we had a pretty lengthy discussion about the Ramones on one of my threads. Today I came up with this track, since there seems to be alot of Ramoens fans on here I'd like some feedback. Any general feedback is fine, but more specifically how does this mix sound compared to a classic Ramones mix. The only thing I tried to do different is I double tracked the guitars, but other than that I tried to keep it in the spirit of The Ramones. What do you think?

Sounds ramonesy! I like it. :) Mix sounds good to me. Will there be vocals?

Guitars are too loud. Bass sounds cool but needs some timing tweaks.

come on Greg, how is this not Ramones?

I see how its not completely Ramones but how can you hear this and think it has no Ramones influence?

Are you freaking kidding me?

You know what, never mind. I knew I should not have come into this thread. Carry on.

I'm serious, don't want to start a flame war but I don't see how theres no Ramones influence in this.

Your saying this music doesn't resemble the Ramones style in any way at all, that theres is nothing even vaguely similar. I just don't get it man.

Way too heavy for Ramones, IMO. Guitars are too loud and also, the tone is too "grungy" for want of a better word.

The Ramones were also tight as fuck. This.....is not, IMO. You may be influenced by something but that doesn't automatically make it sound like the mentioned influence. Never mind the fact that what you hear or want to hear isn't necessarily what others hear.

Could be a good tune with some vocals on it though so don't be disheartened and carry on. :thumbs up:

Way better mix. You got me listening to some Ramones first record on Youtube. What I notice is the balance between bass, drums, and guitar. Perfect. The guitars are lower than you think. There's lots of space for the vocals. It's a pop arrangement.

Yeah, that's definitely better. I'm hearing guitar, bass, and drums now. Better balance of levels. Whether or not it sounds like the Ramones, it sounds pretty cool. You should write some lyrics, sing them. No voice no song.

It sounds like a sloppy version of the Ramones through an amp sim to me. Why not just call it your own garage rock, write lyrics, and make a bad ass original out of it? When you compare it to the Ramones you automatically raise the bar, which of course will get you shot down. I like this as an original, man. Don't like it as a Ramones imitation.

One thing about the Ramones I noticed on their first album is no double tracked guitars, they panned the guitar left and the bass right. However I prefer to have double tracked guitars it may not sound like the Ramones in as far as the mixing, but the chord progression is heavily inspired by them.

I will look into getting a vocal on this.

Yeah that's me on vocals and guitar. I need to find that 4 song ep so I can send it to you

Nothing remotely Ramones about it. Sounds a bit like a louder Undertones maybe but once the chuggy bits come in it's not even that.
It's possibly the chord shapes you use plus the guitar sound and the drums aren't there either.
It's not that the track's a dud - it's fine and might make a good song given a melody and some added dynamics but it's not in NY let alone the Bronx.
