you should at least break down the plugins into a few categories like

fave compressor plug-in

EQ plug-in etc.

I'd probably go with some sort of multi-band compressor ... since it could basically serve as an EQ with the right settings ... or a straight-ahead compressor ... or a de-esser / de-popper, again with the right settings.

You could kill a lot of birds with that stone if it was all you had to work with.

The coolest plugin I use? Wow, that's a loaded question. Sort of like asking what's the smoothest sandpaper, or the dryest water. Maybe Quadrafuzz. Yea, I'd say Quadrafuzz is probably the least uncool (and bordering on cool) plugin I use.

antares auto-tune is my desert-island pick. i can live with not having reverb, and on a deserted island, i won't care about being louder than the next guy, but out of tune vocals... hell no.

Waves Phase linear EQ. Its the bomb. You can compress certain bands like a multiband compressor but it just sounds sooo much better and more real. The lo frequencies can be made solid like in commercial cds.
