The next piece of the puzzle

let me begin by stating my current setup

Fostex MR8-HD
MXL 900
Electrovoice dynamic
SM57
Behringer MIC100 pre

I think that my most immediate need is probably monitors however the allure of a C1 or a set of 603s is omnipresent. Or perhaps a compressor. My question is this, what should my next few pieces of equipment be, by your reckoning?

monitors are one of the most important things you need for a good mix. they should come after buying your mic and pre amp/mixer or whatever. mine broke and i am f**ked without them.

If they're brand new, yes.

I have the VF160EX with a bunch of outboard stuff in my home setup. I have a pair of Fostex PM monitors that work great for me at home. I wouldn't use them to mix the next Mariah hit but they are great for home use. Reasonably priced as well.
