Thanks guys!!!!

Jdude: I already know I'm gonna have to stay active dude, but I appreciate the concern!!! On the wah, I usually end up drawing the automation curve in the daw dude, you can actually pin-point how/where/what it does. Just some trial/error & it should be pretty easy for you...

Bob: Thanks a bunch dude, I swear man, these past few months have been the roughest of my life dude. Really rough....While I won't get as much $$$ as if I were working (of course), I'll still be able to live pretty comfortable, I'm just waiting on the $$$ to start coming in....Just such a big, big relief man, I hope nobody ever has to go through some of the shit I have the past few months....Thanks again Bob!!!

That's great minerman. You're one of the few that actually have actually earned and deserve disability benefits. Just don't sit around and get fat though. :D

Yeah dude, not tootin' my own horn, but I busted my ass on a daily basis for over 25 years in some of the shittiest, god-awful places you could imagine, just to make a dollar...I've saw some hard-ass shifts in those holes, but, I don't ever have to worry about doing that shit again....

And btw, I'm not gonna get fat dude, I couldn't let myself do that...lol

You know, if you can, I bet my guy would sell the Chupa back to you. It's not like he's using it.

Greg, both of you helped me out at a time I just didn't know what I was gonna do. I hated selling that amp so bad, but I really had no choice...

He did tell me in an e-mail if I ever wanted it back, he'd consider selling it back to me for what I got out of it...I know it won't be until about April until I'll be able to do anything like that. I will get some $$$ between now & then, but that's gonna have to get me back on track with all these bills & shit....Talk to him & see what he says....

Right... curiosity has got the better of me. What the fuck is a Chupacabra. I'm fairly certain Miner isn't a collector of rare stuffed animals.

That was the 50w Ceriatone plexi clone I had for a while. Best damn amp I've ever used IMO...Google it man, there's all kinds of shit out there about it....If you look through this thread, there are still some of my clips there I think...Great amp...

Yeah, I even remember hearing the clips and thinking it sounded good I'd just never come across a "chupa" amp! So figured it must be a nickname for something. All clear now. "50w Ceriatone plexi clone" sounds great.

It's not just a Plexi clone though. It's like a hot rodded Plexi clone. It nails all those 80s rock tones. Lotta gain all up in that thing.

Miner, I'll talk to Shawn and see what he says. He's not a douchebag. I really really really doubt he'd make you take a loss on it. He's not like that. He had a fake Gibson ES-335 one time that was fucking perfect and he could have easily hosed some poor fucker. He didn't. He sold it as a fake all on the up and up.

It's basically a SLP circuit, but with a Jose Arredondo high-gain mod. The 3 switches are :Era (plexi, 80's, modern), Bright 2 (adds gain & changes the high-end frequency), & Bright 1 (adds gain & changes the high-end frequency)....

I sold it to one of Greg's buddies because I was in a really hard spot & needed $$$$ in a bad, bad way...

Me & Greg did a shootout of this & his 1987x (with mine in plexi mode), & it was pretty damn close sound-wise....Great amp, I will have another, even if Greg's buddy won't sell it back, I'll still get another one before long...

What little dealing I had with him, he seemed to be a straight-up guy Greg. Just ask him, & lemme know. Explain to him I'm waiting on the $$$ so it may be a month, maybe even 2 before I'll be able to swing it....

I'd love to have it back, & while I've got the DSL, & it's ok, it just doesn't compare to that amp at all. IMO, it's not even in the same league....

So, is it actually a Marshall? Or made by a completely different company.

Weird thing about DSLs. I hear loads of people getting great sounds out of them. But I spend a little while trying to dial the fucker in and got nothing but trebley fizz.

It's a Ceriatone. Marshall clone. Someone put a Marshall logo on minerman's before he got it.

Were you using a combo? They don't sound so great IMO. The DSL is one where I think you really need a head and cab.

I had my hands on an original UK-made JCM2000 DSL recently, and it was bright as fuck. Not fizzy, but it was a bright amp. Sounded good, nice rock tones, but I had to roll the treble way back, and I'm one that typically likes bright amps. The deal was so good though I almost bought it anyway. Then I switched over to JCM 800 and immediately gave the DSL back to the guy.

Well I'll be seeing him tomorrow so I'll bring it up.

Cool man!!! Thanks Greg....

It's a Ceriatone Chupacabra, Ceriatone is the amp company, & Chupacabra is the amp model....IMO, it's a bad-ass amp dude....

Ceriatone - I see now - that's probably why I was so confused 'cos I knew miner had posted pictures before.

DSL. Yeah - it was a combo. My amp shortlist was a Tiny Terror, Studio 20 Combo and DSL Combo.

The Tiny Terror sounded the best (with a 1x12 V30 loaded cab) but I do really need to be able to switch channels. I should have gone for the Studio 20 Head and got the Orange cab. Now I'm fucking about sticking a V30 in my Studio 20 combo.

Jdude, I know space is an issue for you, but if you ever got the chance to use a head/cab (preferably a 2x12 or 4x12), you'd never go back to those combo amps dude. I'm not knockin' ya, as I understand, my first amp when I finally decided to go the real amp route was a Blackstar HT-5 combo, but the difference in just the cab alone is astounding man...

Dunno if you read any of my posts yesterday, but the heart problems I've had recently have knocked me out of the work force dude, permanently, it's over, I'm disabled...:(. I've finally been awarded what I've been waiting on, I'll be getting $"X" every month, for the rest of my days, should have the first check in about a week or so...

Unbelievable for me man, these past 6-8 months have almost broken me in every way possible, but I will finally be pretty secure from now on....This is such a god-damned burden lifted off me, you'll never know....

I'm already looking at used JVM's and possibly an SG.....:).

This is such fantastic news, fella. You deserve it.

The thing that impresses me most is how engaged you've been with everyone on here as you've been going through this nightmare, how supportive of everybody else's tones and gear quests you are, and your continued recordings.

I'm mightily impressed. Had it been me, I might've curled up into a ball and not come out again.

I'm at work right now so it's a bit pointless listening to your uploads, but I'll check them out this evening. :thumbs up:

Bubba, you have no idea how many times I've told myself "Fuck it, that's it, I give up....", but you've gotta keep goin' man, no matter what. You only get one ride on this ticket, sometimes it's great, sometimes it truly sucks. You've just gotta suck it up & keep on dude...

Oh, & us hillbillies are pretty fuckin' tough dude.....:D.

Thanks Bubba, means a lot to me man....

Ok, a couple quick tones with the DSL100H....

I used the same settings on the amp except for the different channels (green crunch & od1)....

Signal chain: Ibanez > DSL > Greenback > '57 (no eq/post processing in the daw)

Amp settings:

100w mode

Resonance: 5
Presence: 6
Bass: 3
Mid: 5
Treble: 6

Green crunch:
Volume: 7
Gain: 7

OD1:
Volume: 7
Gain: 2.5

Green Crunch

OD1

Lemme know what you guys think.....

That Green Crunch is super fat. It sounds good but that's a lot of low end you'd probably have to cut out of a mix I imagine. OD1 clip seems better for that riff IMO.

Yeah, I could hear it in the room & through the 'phones dude, I was just fuckin' around trying to find a happy medium between the red/green channels as in a live situation....I still like this amp, but damn I'm wanting some more gear...lol...

In my experience there is no happy medium between those two channels. Green is super thick and fat, Red is gainy and thin. Each sounds great on it's own, but dial in one channel, and the other is all fucked to hell. The one huge glaring weakness of the infamous DSL. :laughings:

Yeah I know dude, I know....Not sure, but I think I've got a tube going bad in this amp. When I crank the volume up past 6-7, I get a strange oscillation type sound, with more gain it's worse, so I may have a tube about to take a shit. I'll probably break out the stash of spare tubes & swap 'em around to see if that goes away. As long as I don't get the volume over about 5-6 it doesn't do it...

I'm thinking it may be a preamp tube (or I hope anyway)...

Any ideas??

Could be. Since it's only present when loud it may be the phase inverter tube. But I don't know. Swap one at a time and see what happens.
