Cool sound Greg, like mentioned though, my thought is it's too clean. Maybe dirty it up a bit? Shouldn't be hard to do, especially with the beast you own....

Still waiting on my new cab, it'll be here Tuesday, pretty stoked about it......I also bought a 30' cable too, so I can put the cab in another room, & be able to monitor the tone the daw's getting, instead of what I hear coming from the amp.....again, pretty stoked!!!!

And it sure feels good not to have to go to work this week....absolutely love laying on my ass!!!!!!

I'll have to see how it sounds in a full mix. Dirtying it up won't be a problem. :D

Just wondering Sam, are you a T.Rex fan due to your username? Back in the day I was the only one I knew of who listened to T.Rex, Slade, and Mott the Hoople.

Hi Mr. C,
Yeah I like Marc Bolan, T. Rex.
Also like Bauhaus, they do my favorite version of Telegram Sam.

I took the Vox AC15, the Greenback, and the Marshall Class 5 down to a place where I could crank them up and record them.
Man I forget how loud this hobby gets.
I have a whole bunch of tones, I'll work on getting it posted up soon.

I got to "jam" (man I hate that word) last night with my Marshall and LP in a full band setting. I rarely get to do that, I'm always the drummer. I did play some drums for a little while though. I can't not play the drums when they're around. Anyway, man it was awesome getting to let my geetar and amp roar for hours on end. Like I said, I don't often get to do that. I had a purpose though - I was, without them knowing it, auditioning a bassist and drummer for my own band that I'm thinking of starting up. Neither guy passed the test.

you'll have to quit comparing them to me though ..... no one will ever be good enough if you hold them to that standard!

:D:D:D

I sure am happy to see and hear you guys putting up the tones.
Sam ...... you're freakin' rolling along with the new gear ..... bet you're a happy guy right now with all the new toys! :)
And miner man ..... you've got new gear coming ..... I was thinking maybe a Marshall half stack would crash down those coal seams without the need for explosives ........... all you happy gear getting guys make me want to go buy something.

I know I've been slacking but geez ...... too much gigging.
I'll try like hell to capture some live toans Wed.

But the amps I use for that gig are crap .... either the Tiny Terror or the Epi Valve Jr.
I think I'll use the Epi.

I'd love to have a Marshall stack Bob, but really, it'd be too much for me here. I'm hoping the Greenback cab will get me a little closer to that with the Blackstar. I'm positive the new cab will be a huge improvement for my tones, as the stock speaker in the HT-5 is really crappy.....waiting patiently....should be here in about 24 hours or so....

I've heard good & bad things about both the amps you mentioned (Tiny Terror & Epi Valve Jr.), I'm sure you can coax great tones out of either.....

Be careful in this heat Bob, it's killer here, & I'm waaay north from you, so.........

I'm pretty sure it is hotter up north than it is down here. Florida gets butt-ass hot, don't get me wrong, but we don't get as many highs and lows in temp variation as other parts of the country seem to. Just super, super thick and heavy air.

How many variations?

I would like to bitch about something and here seems as good a place as any...I understand companies trying to appeal to different markets and consumers, but I absofuckinglutely hate all of the little variations of the same fucking classic guitar models, mainly Fender and Gibson. Les Paul Classic std. pro, LP custom rear tail-through no pickguard big sound, LP super classic vintage standard custom 1959 baked maple fretboard wipe your ass after done shitting limited edition...grrrrrrr. A few variations, understandably fine, but it seems to be going overboard, and I feel the money is now in research and marketing more than it is producing quality instruments.

Why I chose to own Fender and Gibson products in the first place was to have decent quality instruments and semi-affordable prices. And thank God that fucking roboLP never took off.

I think I'm done with my rant now.

I'm from Louisiana ...... heat has no power over me! :D I'll get out in this wussy Florida heat and push my mower for 2 hours in the sun ....... barely notice it.

As for the stack ...... if it'd save on crushing coal seams the company would probably buy you one!

Seeker ........ I played my paul last week on a gig and it was a "what the hell was I thinking?' moment. Heavy and totally non-ergonomic.
I'll never use it on a gig again. Playing up high on the neck is a pain in the ass. I can do it but why bother? I'll use a good guitar from now on! :laughings:
It is, however, good for rock rhythms on recordings. That's about it though.

I'm a completist.
I need to touch one of everything so I can make up my own mind. :D

Here's my first tone from yesterday.

120701 Vox Strat Blue Greenback
Vox amp cranked pretty high (all the way? At least to the point where it didn't make much difference), tone defeated, Strat, lead pu / blue alnico / tone rolled back, 4x, then tone at 7, then tone dimed, then neck p/u then green back lead p/u dimed.

Totally dig my LP sound, but agree on the playing. I've always felt LP takes some effort to make it go, mainly for soloing. Strat body styles are like a cool spring breeze when it comes to whipping around the strings.

And I agree that they sound great ...... that's why I like it for rock rhythms ...... it's so solid and chunky.
As for it taking effort to make it go ..... yep ...... and some people act like that's a benefit........ but it's not.
It would be like putting a leaking pad on my sax and saying it takes effort to make it go ...... yeah, it would.
But you'll play better on a sax that doesn't leak.

Below the 12th fret a paul plays as well as anything else ....... if you're solos stay down there then pauls are just fine ergonomics-wise.
But if you like to spread farther up the fretboard you'll play better on something else.

Try a Hagstrom Swede (or most any Hag) if you ever get a chance.

I never could get into the Strat/Tele thing too much. I have a sweet '52 RI Tele, and I use it from time to time...but I never liked the neck, especially the smaller radius fretboard that many Strat/Teles seem to have. I'm looking to get another Tele, I want a Thinline, but it will probably be with a custom, flatter neck.

LPs often have what I perceive as fat/chunky necks...some guys love them, buy they feel a bit 2x4-ish too me, though overall, I can play on them easy enough.
Love my Hagstrom necks though...but then, I've been playing Hagstrom Swedes forever... :) ...and their RI models feel almost the same as their vintage stuff. Very easy on the hand, and super-fast/smooth.
It's a narrower and flatter-back neck, and the RI models have a 15" radius (pretty sure the vintage are the same). I find it just fits my hand perfectly, and every time I play my Tele, which has a C-neck and 7.25" radius...my hand hurts after 10 minutes when playing rhythm. For leads, I can move on the Tele almost as easy, though with the smaller radius, the strings end up being a bit higher so they don't fret-out...so it's not as buttery smooth as my Hags.

My hand obviously prefers the larger radius fretboards...but I can deal with different neck shapes/sizes easy enough.

Wait, what?
