The not fountain head
Use a REAL BASS GUITAR!....

Ya know.. Most of my beats suck.. And I think they suck because of the bass line, first and foremost...

However, the more closely I listen to albums and read the credits, the more I'm convinced that all the big heavy hitting beats are either real bass guitar (mic'd up with a real bass amp or sansamp ;) ) or a great sounding sample that is well utilized... And only the best programmers can pull off good synth lines

Jay-Z's new album is a great example...

The above and beyond beats prolly even have a session musician play bass for the whole song from start to finish, without loops.. That's pro, in my eyes...

Just a thought.. And maybe it's not all the great hip hop.. It just so happens that I really dig the tone of a real bass as opposed to a synth or multisampled reason-style bassline...

Oh well.. :p ... Carry on...

I myself have a bass guitar and to tell you the truth it can do big things they way i have it hooked up. it is key for basslines but i been lazy lately and haven't used it lol
