i was readin another forum about the matress trick in order to get dry vocals and i was just wondering how this was done. what size beds do you need and how many beds in order to accomplish this? also how big show the room be to do this?

i dont know why this thread posted twice but disregard one of them :D

I think it is dependant on how big you are. I had a couple spare mattresses over the summer before the roomates moved into the apartment, so I built a 3-walled "vocal booth" out of them, and threw some blankets over the top. Worked nicely on isolation, and also worked well for getting dry vocals. They were all standard double mattresses, stood up like cereal boxes. I think they were all 8-inches thick, but Im sure most matresses will suffice. I wouldn't recommend twin bed mattresses as they aren't terribly wide once stood up, but if you are just putting two together in a corner to avoid immediate reflections, I suppose those would be fine as well. I just so happened to be interested in closing myself in as much as possible :)

what you do is you take about 4 or 5 king size matresses and balance them on top of your head while tracking vocals. works every time.

Throwing a couple duvets on there helps a good deal as well.

Or put the mic on the ground, lay face-down right above the mic and sing as loud as you can. Moving your arms and legs in a "snow angel" motion will help add dynamics to the recording.

Twin size are a bit small for a vocal booth, but in a pinch they can be stood in the corners and serve fairly well for emergency bass traps. Be sure to use real padded matresses, not the cheap foam rubber ones.
