-------------------------
Last night while listening to Steve Harley's show "Sound of the Seventies" I heard this little ditty flying by.

Steve announced the song as: "Here is another one which does had that distinctive 70s sound"

When I heard the first few bars I thought: "Aaagh here is Ritchie, so this must be Deep Purple" Then as the song progressed I thought: "Hang on, which Purple song is this then?" Then I knew..................."This is not Purple but Rainbow" More poppy songs, tighter songstructures and..................

Well long time ago I had all that early Rainbow stuff, but these days it is all gone, but somehow I still recognised the song.

Does it happen a lot to you that you hear something somewere and go like: "What the hell is that?" or "Do I know that song?"

Purple or Rainbow, which one do you prefer? Think they are both SH~T? Can we compare them? Really ?? How well did they fit in the era where they come from? Purple today..................................Do we really need this? Wise idea from Ritchie not to take up the guitar seat in Purple again? Sad move from Steve Morse, as the man could do so much more?????

What da ya think? To early in the day to take up these topic?

Eddie

Didn't Rainbow have Ronnie James Dio for vocals? He had a nice voice.

I was (and still am) a Blackmore fan. My guitar teacher in the 70's use to hate him, and Paige, and Winter, etc. Steve Howe was the only worthy guitarist on earth in his mind.

It's a shame I didn't dump that teacher and move on to somebody else. That really put a cramp in my style for years.

Overall, I vote for early Purple with Ian on vocals.

I think Steve Morse, increadable as he is, is pretty much limited in the creatively department (I think I'm starting to smell flames ;-). The Dregs albums pretty much had the same 10 songs/styles on each one. But that might be one reason Morse left. Maybe Morse needed to move on earlier.

Just my 2 cents.

IMHO,

the setup you find on the "Rainbow-on stage" album is the best he had, w/ Ronnie James Dio, the "incredible" Cozy Powell, tony airey (?) ...

and it also seems that Blackmore/Dio were a heck of a songwriter team ... being both somewhat "mystic" ...

- 16th century greensleves
- still I'm sad (w/ lyrics, as opposed to the studio album)
- catch the rainbow
- mistreaded ...

god - thats timeless rock classics ... also outstanding recording technique

I saw a show in Dallas in about 2003,I guess it was-had Dio,Scorpions, and Deep Purple.
Dio did play Man On The Silver Mountain, and it was really good.He had a new guitarist with him at the time,a guy named Doug Aldritch. He was excellent.Don't think he stayed with Dio long, though.Don't know why.
Scorpions were the best band in the show, and their set was very entertaining.
Deep Purple just flat-out sucked. And Steve Morse didn't do a thing for me.

I saw dio this year in santiago ...

a *very* good show ... a very humble person it seems, he puts a lot of him into the show and he played plenty of his rainbow material - as well as his 80ies metal stuff.

havent heard anything new from him in a while, tho ...

In my mind Deep Purple is not the same without Ritchie. I love Steve Morse (seen him a few times and got a guitar pick and autograph from him) and have most of his CD's, but he just does not sound right with them. That being said I'm still going to see them in June because its Deep Purple dammit!

Anyway's my favourite vocalist with Purple was David Coverdale. I've seen Purple with Ian Gillan in 85 for the perfect strangers tour and also saw him with Black Sabbath before that and he was good. Wish I could have seen them with Coverdale though.

Ahhh...Deep Purple. Brings back great memories. Yeah, I'll take the original Purple (Pace, Glover, Gillian, Blackmore) over Rainbow any day.

Sure They Did Not Play "Man on.................."

Hi all there,

Yep Rainbow or Purple or ................they are all fine bands and really you cannot compare them eh? Heh sorry I deleted my images, but don't you worry I will put that image back where it belongs as I like it so much, will also add some more.

Now back to topic: Purple without Ritchie is not really Purple, but this goes for all the old bands. They should all reunite, make new albums or just call it a day.

We all know why they do this eh? We are all in it for the money.

Want to know why Steve Morse does this job? What do you think? Okay he may be kidding, but that is what he mentioned a few times in some interviews from the last few years. Nothing wrong with it, guess we would all do the same if we were given the choise.

Okay let us now go.....................

And there she is, back where she belongs

Eddie
