Here is a tune that was very difficult on a personal level. As a disabled veteran, I come into contact with many older vets at the VA hospital. One day, walking in, I noticed a sad, older vet, sitting in his wheelchair, just staring off into space. This touched me at some level and of course, I write about things that have meaning to me.

The Lost Memory Waltz

Lost Memory Waltz

He sits on the porch In that old wooden chair

His eyes gaze out over the years

The times he remembers are so long ago Now the days turned into years

She was breath taking in the spring of her youth

How their love shown thru joy and the tears

Now he's living but dying in 3/4 time to the sweetness of the lost memory waltz

Married at twenty two girls and then a son fore he went off to war

She wrote everyday a universe away from the darkness and thunder he bore

Came back from the edge a silent hurt in his soul a loss he could never explain

He's living but dying in 3/4 time to the sweetness of the lost memory waltz

Some times he goes for days just rocks and he waits for memories as real as today

But the memories are played in his mind his heart beats a tune all the time

He's living but dying in 3/4 time to the sweetness of the lost memory waltz

The nights can be so cruel some times he sits and cries

for the life he never knew

The child inside that died and the bitter tired tears all he lost all these years

But he's doing fine cause somewhere in his mind He's dancing with her by his side

Now he's living but dying in 3/4 time to the sweetness of the lost memory waltz..........

Good song, as usual.

The recording seems very bright. If you go through your Soundclick songs, the last 2 are brighter than the others.:D The snare is bright. If you are eq'ing this, you are going the wrong way.:D I clicked through all your soundclick songs for a few seconds, and the last two are indeed noticably brighter.

Other than that, terrific song and good performances.

Hmm, I'm wondering if my HF hearing loss is getting worse? Too much high end? I'll try scaling back some of the HF multiband compression.

I really appreciate the comments. I had a fiddle part that I played but I trashed it as just plain painfull!:D

Wow, i really enjoyed this song...gave me goosebumps.... but at the sametime it was pretty sad and reminds me of one of the many reasons i fear getting old. haha
Very nice.

Good song, Doc, but about 30 seconds too long. I know I write long songs and shouldn't call the kettle black, but there it is. It would be stronger if it was shorter. I love the genre. Country suits a thinking man's song better than trains, the rain, dogs, and bar stools and neon lights that say "drink me."

Thanks for the comments and suggestions.

I remixed this tonite, and completely remastered it. I removed much of the HF overhype, removed the panned right acoustic, slightly increased the reverb on the vocal only.

I went in and added some tape saturation with Voxengo varisat and also used another Voxengo tool that is a Transient driven filter that can be used to smooth out a mix.

I agree that it is a bit long. In fact, I almost dropped the last verse.

I don't know about shortening it... It seems to have a beginning middle and end which would be truncated if you shortened it by dropping something.
I didn't hear the first mix but this one has a bit of sibilance which might be caused by the effects you're using. If you could cut that down a bit it would be good.
I love these kinds of songs and you've written another excellent one. It's cool to hear a waltz once in a while - nice playing too....
