Put a NOS siemens halske in my NTK (which I was gonna sell) and it is a brand new mic. Took the bright down a notch and pushed the fullness quotient to the point of "Wow, nice mic!" Thanx kid!

Big K...hey man, glad you're hearing the difference...I had the same experience...certainly well worth the extra bucks...Enjoy brother...kidV

I did about the same thing with my Rode K2. Not that I didn't like it before, this made it much better. I replaced the stock tube with a NOS Telefunken ECC88 and it was like getting a new mic...

(In best Beavis voice) Huh huh. You said "Siemens."

hey now, my pops works for the big S. there's more Siemens jokes at this house than you can shake a stick at... "Hey dad, you've got some Siemens on your business cards." Still not better than "Wow, check out all of that Siemens on Big K's tube." ahhh, back to my hole.

huh huh,

Seimens tube!!!

heheh

Did he say "rode" ...huh huh...or "chode"??

Yeah!!! heheh ...How do you spell "chode" anyway??

Here a message I've got from GYang, who seems to know a lot from tubes.
Thanks again Yang!

In my case NTK was slightly harsh sounding and overly bright. Anyhow, this mic is very good on some male vocals, so to improve situation on lower end and make it more pleasant on higher end tube can tune the mic..
I tried and found as exceptionally well Telefunken ECC 88 cc, Mullard 6922 ('59) and Cryovalve Amperex.
Reasonable price range 150-250 $ for the best NOS examples.
I tried plenty of Chinese, Russian tubes, but no success.
Cheaper tubes are either newer or fakes or used (short life expectation).
What's improvement?
More space, wider scene, nicer bass and less harsh in the mix later. You cannot change the character of mic, but it will be definitely refined.
Is it worth the price? Depend on how much you use it.
How to found? Very often patience is needed, as good tube rarely stays long time in stock.

Some of specialists could be found at:

www.tubeworld.com

Happy tuning.

Cool, thanks.

I found several for about that, but I thought maybe there was something wrong with them.......

Siemens is dutch, it's a dutch word, and therefor, not funny to me at all. Siemens. Meh.

...the best deals can be found on the internet...keep an eye out for RCA 6DJ8 tubes (same as 6922/E88CC) that are either "made in Germany" or "made in Holland" (these tubes will have 4 ridges on the top of the tube radiating out from the peak, and many will also have gold-pins)...these are really either Siemens (Germany) or Amperex (Holland) tubes (re-labelled for RCA) and are just as good as the gold-pinned Siemens/Amperex 6922/E88CC versions...they go for $30 or less quite frequently on Ebay...these will help smooth out the sound of your NTK or K2 microphone...

...here's a link that explains the origin of these tubes (scroll down to "BRANDS" on the page):

...here's some examples currently up on Ebay:
