I humbly submit my latest tune to the gentlemen of this forum. I hope to get some good advice. I'm looking for comments on the mix and singing but any comment is appreciated, good or bad. It was recorded at home.

Thank you for your time. The song is called "the hole situation."
It is a strange tune that jumps around.

Thanks.

WARNING some may find the lyric content explicit, I really dont though. Thanks.

ok.. streaming starts...

Nice intro.. Maybe the guitars could use some edge.. dunno.. This is a really cool song... Vocals are a bit low IMO.. Is the bassdrum panned left?

I likes

nice strange intro.... vocals gotta come up. and some more punch to the drums. I like the "strangeness", for sure. Great melotron kinda sound around 1:30....and it seques into some neat stuff. good sound on the vocals there too...just need to come up a bit. Some very unusual sounds, for sure....I like it:)

to my untrained ear, the sound is great. I can't really comment on the mix. I can only comment on the tune as a rock fan.

very refreshing and new .. refreshing may not be adequate to describe the overall mood of the tune, but it's very different and original.

I love the growling guitar and the overall groove.

Great job with the vocals!!!

It is twisted however and that's probably the very reason why the tune is bookmarked in my browser. LMFAO.

Later dude.

Hey man, really liked the tune, you got a cool, fresh sound, love the middle section with the aucoustic guit jammin with all the killer sounds trippin us out. What type of gear you usin to get all your synthesized sounds, how bout that haunting "female" vocal towards the end, I really liked that part, maybe boost the vol/verb on that part and draw it out for a nice cool conclusion. Oh and I agree that maybe the lead guit should be boosted in volume a bit, although I do like the multi layers, gives your sound a good signature and innovation. Keep it up man!

Nice vision,

The texture and feel of the changes were well defined (the definative vocal effects had a huge part in this) and the flow was suprising and present.

I'd like the vox up on all acounts.
Clean tracking and a stern, if devolutional, message.

great work with a potential nightmare of conception to realization.

I do believe you've made it happen!!

Peace,
THeron.

thanks

Thanks for taking the time to hear it. Your comments are appreciated. You really have a way with words "Theron." :)

Laj35, some of the voices are from the "Orchestral 2" expansion card for the Roland JV-1010. Also have a QS6.1 with exp. cards. Very cool that I got 5 responses.

So far you guys think I should bring up the vox. I am glad I posted this because I'm usually afraid of making them too loud, I am very insecure about my voice but I'm going for it anyway.

Thanks again for wasting some time. I hope that "Blue Bear" gives it a listen. I read some priceless comments he made on other peoples tunes.

Thanks again dudes!

Excellent tune. From what I can hear, I wouldn't change a thing. The vocal is back a bit but, IMHO, it just adds to the distant, spooky vib you have going on. Two thumbs up.

Track Rat,

Thanks man, appreciate you taking the time. I'm trying to work out some vocal and mix things and it's nice getting some feedback. Thanks for the thumbs up! It's encouraging.

Any tips or insults appreciated.

peace.

Meshuggah,
What do you mean by edge? You think a more distorted sound, or something that can be done with e.q.?

thanks.

Very cool. Lots of nice sounds in there. Good mix as far as I can tell (I'm at work). This is almost like Depache Mode meets Ozzy meets Beastie Boys!

Very creative, nice breaks, and nice sounds. Good work!

Slackmaster,

I appreciate you taking the time. I listened to your stuff and it was some of the best stuff I've heard here yet. That song "Monday" is a just a good song, whether recorded at home or not. I like it. Reminds me a bit of "Soundgarden" and a bit of "Sabbath," and thats a winning combination. I look forward to hearing new music from you. I listen to just about everything on this board and I've heard good recordings. This time I also heard a very good song.

If anyone else has any comments BAD or good, I would appreciate any advice I could get from the talent around here.

Thanks to anyone who took the time.

Listened to this tune....

Overall, quite decent as far as mix balance and sound quality -- good job!

Things I would change if I were mixing it myself:
- bring the vocal out more
- more definition and depth to each individual track, the drums sometimes got buried, as did other tracks here and there
- the acoustic guitar bridge sounded a bit too tinny... it would have had more impact if the guitar had that lush, rich acoustic sound, instead of the lo-fi effect (strictly a matter of taste on my part - you could easily argue against it!!)
- give the rhythm guitar a bit more bite, it sounded like the mids were sucked out a bit too much (again, my personal taste)

As I said though -- good job, keep at it!

I like the overall mix of this, but the bass-drum certainly seems to be coming slightly from left. At least it's noticeable on headphones. The bass drum is a little too electronic for my tastes, but this song isn't really that traditional heavy metal anyway. The song is great. I like what you were going for here. Weird but still the song is a good composition. The weird-ass guitar thingy on 2:53 was really unexpected, so it is working if that's what you were going for. Intro was gloomy, and I liked it. I have no objections for the acoustic guitar sound either. Sounds fitting here, since it's a little bit metallic. So the only downside was the bass drum being a bit on the left side.

Different. Sounds good. Cool dist guit tone.
I agree that the vocals could be up a bit.
The acoustic guit is kind of chaotic :)

BLUE BEAR,

Thanks for listening. I listened to that "Pink Floyd" 4-track you posted in another thread. I cant believe the sound you got from a four track. I have a long way to go. Thanks for the tips. I'm sick of hearing that song by now so I'll apply the tips to my new tune. Your stuff always sounds GREAT, so thanks again.

CRANKY ONE,

Thanks for checking it out bro, I'm going to check out your tune right now and I'll post comments in your thread.

WARLOCK,

Thanks for the comments, I REALLY liked your tune and will be looking for more.

MR. WILSON,

Yes, I definitly have some issues, thanks for listening.

Thanks again to everyone who wasted their time listening.
I will now go listen to others tunes and post my comments........
Not that anyone cares what I think anyway.

peace.

kick ass !

I really like the mixture of rhythms and sound textures. Variety is a great thing. Very interesting to listen to. Nice work. Peace, Silver

Cool,
I also noticed the kick on the left, not that it sounds any worse, it is just different. I like the gtr sound as it is, not too edgy or in your face, just kinda big on the low end, it adds to the feel. The wierd gtr solo thing was tight, cool sound. I liked the acoustic being low fi and going from side to side. The drums that come in on the acoustic part are a little weak, but they don't get in the way of anything which is nice.

Different stuff,
ian

Cool shit, period. I listened to it twice, to try to digest it. Damn that's cool!! It must have taken a lot of time. I'm trying to get into a bit more of the electronic/metal stuff but I find it really difficult to actually make music on a computer. Anyways, it's really fuckin cool!!! I'll check out more of your tunes.

By the way, did you play everything?
Sweet!
