And the winner is....

The Ford Focus! I would put sugar in Schumie's tank so the motor would die! ;)

Kidding aside....agree.

No-one should be opposed or threatened by the big-boy's....just learn from em.

I wonder how many Americans even know who Schumacher IS... for that matter, Senna, Prost, and Piquet?

sjoko2 if you are ever going to fit in with the "Great American Melting Pot", you are going to have to start quoteing NASCAR driver names.

NASCAR = Drive fast, turn left, Yee Haaa!

Don't mean to sound ungrateful for the experienced people who share info. This site is certainly excellent for people such as myself to learn from others. Just couldn't belive the pissing contest. I did not read every post (who could?) but from what I read those were the feelings I got. Maybe the "condescending attitude" I detected was meant only to reinforce the strength of Blue's feelings......I will read more before I know. Anyway, I am thankful for all the input from all the experienced people and I will continue to read & learn!!

Mastering Link

Just to let you know guys...that link to the mastering site is home to some very talented folx. I've spent the last year or so just reading before I asked a question.

Read and search out questions before getting them to rehash old stuff. That place doesn't put up with the foolishness that infects so many other forums so be courteous and professional.

Cheers!

Bruce - if you are still following this thread, I'm intending to pick up the book you originally recomended, "The Mastering Engineer's Handbook", by Bobby Owsiniski. You mentioned that he also wrote a book for the Mixing Engineer. Would you recomend reading the mixing book first?

I took an earlier suggestion of your and bought "Behind the Glass" which was a very interesting read. Any other books you would recomend for home recording guys like myself?

"The Mixing Engineer's Handbook" and "The Mastering Engineer's Handbook" (both By Bobby Owsinski) have nothing to do with each other in terms of content, so you can read either one.... the Mixing one probably has more "hands-on" practical application stuff. The Mastering book is more a process description as opposed to a "how-to" type book.

Other titles that I think are essential reading for anyone interested in more serious recording techniques are:

Total Recording - Dave Moulton
Modern Recording Techniques - Huber & Runstein
Project Studios : A More Professional Approach - Philip Newell

I'm going to try and avoid tweak hell next time. I'll buy a MAC...

Happy tweaking dood... :)

I started on this whole 'Mastering' thing yesterday morning because I have been playing around with Sound Forge 5.0 and thought it was a fun little toy to play around with. Then Queue said he thought this thread (the Sonic Foundry one) was going in the same direction as another thread that ended in a "Mastering Duel". And RWhite obliged with his post directing me to a 10 page 'pissing match'. I read every post with mixed emotions mostly leaning (This is my brown nosing part) toward the advice given by the pros, but understanding some of the comments made by the non-pros. That is to say, it doesn't hurt to try to make something sound better if you're using it as a learning tool. Someday there will be no Blue Bears or Sjokos or Shailats and somebody's got to step in their shoes. But I think it's going to take a lot more than a software package to do that.

I am not in the least suprised that Bruce was the 'Victor' in this [experiment]. But I will never know what the submitted material sounded like. Because after reading ten pages and now eleven more pages plus the page that led me to this whole thing to start with, i ran into this:

from Queue's page

Hey, where's the Mastering Stuff?????

Queue's in the middle of moving all his cyberstuff....

Go here for the Mastering Stuff Downloads.

Scratch that, I deleted it all, that thread has run its course...

:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(

But it's okay and I have enjoyed all the posts and learned that for me Sound Forge will always be a fun toy to play around with but will not make me a Master or Mistress or whatever the case may be. :) I must add that I don't like the reverb in SF I really think it sucks, but I sat with my hubby for hours listening to a song over and over him tweaking with the reverb and me tweaking it off and getting into an argument over the mouse and our daughter looking at us like we were from the twilight zone. And I still conclude that my version sounded better cause I didn't have the rumble he had cause I didn't use the funky old reverb.:D

Thanks Queue, I bookmarked that. I am going to look over it with my husband so we can squabble over it together. :D Actually, I am being mean because he has a good ear for sound.

Hey langleyt...

Is your avitar a self portrait? If so - will you marry me?? ;):D

Oh - that's right. You're already married.... :)

Ju's kiddin'

Q...

nice link. have to read that one. :)

Thanks for the Link Queue!.

Langleyt I'm kinda with you on the Sonic Foundry reverb plugin, I don't like the sound of it as well as some others I've tried (including Freeverb). But of all the plug-ins I've tried Sonic Foundry's are the ONLY ones that have been 100% bug free, and very light on the cpu as well. So I have also been experimenting trying to get a tolerable reverb.
