i apologize for it's length, but it's one of those stories that can only get a good reaction when it's told from beginning to end.
i met this cat when i first came to georgia in 2001. i was coming out of comp. u.s.a. he noticed that i had the ati vidio card. he asked me what i was into and i told him i was trying to get into making music videos on my computer. we hooked up for the first time when my computer crashed, and he fixed it on the love. he told me how he once had a record deal about 6 years back, but the company went belly up. i met his rap artists, went to one of thier shows, and even kicked it at his crib a couple of times. he told me some inside stuff on pastor troy, drama, miracle, and other georgia artists.
the cat seemed cool. i told him that i would do a cd cover for his group free of charge. he told me that he does his own covers, so i asked to check em out, that was some poor work. i started attending augusta tech and came across one of his artists, whom i have already met. she told me that the cat was wondering where i have been. i ended up dropping by his studio to record one of my songs. he told me that it wasn't ready. i respected that. he let me listen to some of his artists new material, i wasn't impressed with the older stuff. the new material was hot. he told me that they were about to get signed to, i believe jive. i was like way to go. some time went by and i was like shyt i may as well sign to this dude and have some fun, since i probably won't have any chances of getting signed by a big wig label.
i decided not to go back to his studio, due to the fact it would be more productive and cost efficient for me to have my own pre production setup. about 9 months go by and i run up on this cat that was in this music store looking around. i overheard him bieng jerked by the sales rep. when he walked out i followed behind him. i told him to go on ebay for some better deals.
we got to talking about music and he told me about this buddy of his. he said he and this cat was talking to a jive a&r. the guy wanted to buy some beats from them. the beats he liked all were his and not his buddies. his buddy erased the beats and said it was by accident. he said that his disks were color coded, so his buddy should have not made that mistake. now the kicker is that the guy's artists are being offered $100,000 as a signing bonus to, i believe jive, but they do not want the producer/rapper/manager/graphics designer, because in thier own words he has no talent.
this cat denies them thier opportunity, because he can't get picked up. the guy told me that the madd rapper/producer said that no one in augusta is going to blow before he does. well, i said it was too late for that because a video is being played on 106 and park by a group from augusta. this cat's artist doesn't even know about thier chance with jive, he refuses to tell them. the guy pulled out a cd from this cat, i was like hell no, this was the cat i was ready to sign to. the game is cold and, i got lucky this time.
