...very nice!
Totally deluxe and custom all the way...very cool...

Yeah, he'll switch your order, and there's a 7-day trial period. Check out the application matrix at the bottom of the microphone drop down box under the shop section. It lists, in order of quality in his opinion, the mics he'd use for different reasons.

I order the MSH-2s which may not be well-suited to my recording, but maybe for someone else's. Why not, they're cheap and good.

In any application where what you're recording actually sounds good, they're perfect. What you hear is what you get. I like to record the guitar as I hear it while playing, and they work great for that. My room sucks so I have to close mic everything but they sound great. I've thought about getting a different type of mic...like cardioid for something different, but really, I'm completely fine with these Naiants and see no reason to upgrade at all.

For what it's worth, all the songs on my site were recorded using these (just got 2 new ones with the blue ring thing around them). Music might not be so great but I think the recordings sound really good. :D
Hey Danny. Nice tunes. What guitar were you using? Thanks.

Paul:D

I have MSH-2s that I use on acoustic all the time. I love them.

Thanks for the affirmation Guitarer. I'll try them out and see how things go. I was hoping to not only use them for recording but maybe even in a live situation and blend it with the pick up I'm getting.

Thanks Kgirl. I'll try them. Like you say they're really cheap. And if things don't work out in the recording situation and can always spring for some of the other mics they have. ;)

Just ordered 2 MSH-2s that I plan to use on acoustics and drum overheads (maybe room mics, we'll see)

I'll let you know what I think when I get a chance to check them out...

I got these earlier this week and tested them out fully on Weds. as drum overheads. I ordered a pair of MSH-1's a while back and was very unimpressed with their sound, although I only recorded acoustic guitar with that pair. I actually returned that pair for a single MSH-2T (the same as this pair but with a transformer).

I ran the MSH-2s through a M-Audio DMP3 (my low end pre of choice) and played a bit. I was still unimpressed until I noticed that the phase inversion was on for one of the channels. I swapped it off and presto -- instantly, the drums were much fuller and in-your-face.

This DOES have a slight amount of compression from Vintage Warmer, but then again everything I do has a bit of that.

Also, the drums aren't tuned, etc. and the mics were pretty much about ten feet away from the kit and about 6' off the ground, pointed directly at the center of the kit. No other mics were used.

...I just realized that I have to post five times before I can post an external link. So...

Hey... longtime lurker here. I picked up a couple of MSH-2's a few months back, and have had great success using them on acoustic guitar. I've found that offsetting their clarity with a "color" mic like a Fathead makes for a very nice overall sound. I'll probably spring for a couple of X-Q's before too long, just because they are so dang cheap and John recommends them for acoustics over the the MSH-2's.

Okay so if I was going to buy one of these, what else would I need? Would I just need to get a mic clip?

Seafroggies,

Yeah... so long as you've got phantom power, all you will need is a clip.

Sweet.

Hopefully one of my mic clips is already compatible!

Dry_County, thanks a lot for your audio example.

I believe you should invest in acoustic treatment for your room because the recording sounds incredibly boxy. Could you do some closer miking with an other instrument? perharps grand piano or guitar?

Thanks

My little mini arrived today.....

It's better than I hoped for. I ran it through it's paces on a large darbukah with a tight head so I had a deep throbbing bass and very high sharp slaps. The signal was solid with no hint of spiking. I will be ordering more. It's really tiny and light and exactly what I was looking for, Bravo!

Well I got my XQ today!... WOW that little thing thats not even as big as my pinky SOUNDS GREAT!!!! every pick stroke on the acoustic.... wow! Great stuff!

I used the X-S at a gig last night

I performed really well while playing with an amplified keyboard, sitar and a bass player. I had no issues with bleed (I used it very close mic'ed tapped to the doumbek). The lows were nice and round and fat and the high slaps were clear. This little tike is a real performer.
