The Fixx Reach the Beach

Ok, well this question will pretty much expose me for the musical dork that I am but, what is, is.

If you are familiar w/ the Fixx's album reach the beach then you probably know that the guitars are the most solid state chorused out tracks you have heard, they are very thin and weird.

I Love them. Especially the big solo at the end of "Outside"

Would anyone care to take some guesses as to what equipment was used to get that sound?

My guess would be a Tele through a Jazz Corus.

I admit it too!

I've always admired The Fixx, they are among a few rock/new wave crossover bands of the 80's that had some amazing talent. I spent many an hour in my bedroom copping Fixx and Duran Duran basslines.

there was an interview of the guitarist in a guitar player years and years ago. maybe do a search on their website for what issue and then track it down. all i remember is him saying something like "I don't want my guitar to sound like a guitar at all!".

Which it does, just a very sweet one!
 
Its a Marshall and Strat type O' Guit{I think its a Shecter} combination..Cool band!

Used to listen to The Fixx a lot - and used that sound on several other tunes we played back then. I got a really good approximation of it with a Strat (middle and bridge pickup) into a rack mount compressor, some light stereo chorus and a stereo Boogie setup.

I seem to remember his name was Jamie West-Oram (or something like that!)

He also toured with Tina Turner around that time.

Yeah that whole band sounded real cool live and on record.
Another guitar and bass sound I loved was on the first two SADE albums.

The Duran Duran bass lines were pretty great as well.
