Hi guys.

A bit about me.
I'm pretty new to this place having signed up a couple of weeks ago after browsing the forum for several months. I've been composing music on and off since the 80's but only started taking it more seriously a couple of years ago when the wife bought me 'Reason'.
With the exception of my Yamaha and my Alesi monitors, everything else is in the box as they say. I'm totally electronic though I like to produce anything from ballad to rock, from dance to country...I really love anything with a melody and good chord sequencing.

I'm currently in the mixing stage of my debut album but only started learning this side of the business about 8-9 months ago...I didn't even know what a plugin was until xmas when I found 'Reaper'(thx to a post on this forum) which I now use for my mixing.

Right, so now I'm at the stage of wondering if I'm done...if I can call my tracks 'mixed' or not. So I've decided to post my first track on here with the hope that I'll get a bit of feedback. All opinon/advice is welcome, either positive or negative, it all helps.

Thanks to NL5 for the service.

Thanks...

Mart.

I am not a fan of electronica, but this was well mixed. My only nits are going back to what little of this stuff I heard, it takes a bit too long for the drive of the song, the percussion, to kick in and get things going.

Nice job, though.

cool song. what follows is just what i would do...

personally, i would take out the thunderclaps and rain in the intro. with them in, it sounds too modern compared to the synth, which sounds kind of retro/analogue-y. kind of sounds like the beginning of a euro dance song.

i think the rest of the kit should come in with the kick to "kick" start the song. (and when you are slowly building up the song, sometimes adding one new aspect every couple of measures gets boring...so come in hard with the drums and let the different fx and melodies do the building) on my monitors the high hat seems to overpower the snare. especially when the drums do a fill, the cut out is very apparent. get a nasty sounding snare in there.

that's just what i would do. the song and synths sound really cool.

Thanks guys.

Yea, I've been told by a few people that my music tends to take too long to build up...but I think that's just my style. I would like to post other tracks here soon and if you think that track takes a while, wait till you hear some of my others LOL.
I've sat pondering before about whether I could cut this out or bring that in earlier etc but in the end, I always end up saying 'no, I like it this way'...though I will try to bare this in mind for future projects and so thanks anyway.

Would love anymore feedback especially in the production sense as this is where I'm most concerned atm ?

Thanks...

Mart.

The kick: There's a technique that I hear a lot...it's a different kick..a real WHOMP that temporarily sucks all the rest of the audio in , like a black hole. Your kick drum is passe, and sort of flaccid for the genre. Not cutting-edge. Compared to the better stuff in the genre playing now, it's kind of sonically boring.

On important element missing: a melody: A once in a while group of hot babe voices; a hook phrase; a little ditty on a synth. Almost universal.

I listen to this stuff a lot driving home from gigs at 3:00am to keep me awake..and listening for production ideas. Your production pallette is old-school, and lacks the whollup of the latest in the craft....which took its bass drum cue from hiphop. [my best analysis].

If you're tailoring a record for a certain market, genre, it might be worthwhile to tune in to what's going on at the moment...try to catch the train...and then figure out how to go one step beyond.....if you want to sell CD's.

As it is, you could get some stock music action...but the production is nowhere near what it would take to get it where the current best-of-genre plays. Humble opinion.

Get a Grip

So I decided I'd create the link for my second track in this same thread as it's gonna be track two of the same album and it saves starting a new thread and keeps my music sort of organised which I like. :D

Anyway, I'd appreciate any comments good or bad so, have a listen and let me know what you think. Thanks alot...

Mart.
